OCing causes the 'lines' (can't remember proper term for wire that run power) to swell and while OCing is possible you're essentially adding more air to a ballon and praying its elastic enough to hold one more pump of air before * BOOM * Dead CPU.

Heat wouldn't be able to escape... your card would over heat. Like when arctic animals sleep in the snow. its to retain heat. So the card would overheat and likely melt the surrounding, yet no conductive ice... but then you run into expansion and shrinkage of ice that would fracture the board/card.

I like the idea though   I think it has potential.
Perhaps a plexiglass case inside a tank of water, then allow the water to freeze. Make sure the inner cage with the components has a drainage in the case of condensation. The parts should stay dry and the ice would keep the inner glass at a cool temp. Just dont see it being as effective as water cooling.

    1. You could water cool and put a freezing coil in it but set up a logic to monitor the temp and humidity, too cold/humid and you get condensation.

A lot of good points here. Spark notes:

    Youre an adult.
    You have a family.
You need to provide and be responsible.
Be selfless and take the decision with the best long term impact for your family because they should be your first prioriety.

Best of luck to you mate. I'll be praying.

I completely agree with both of your comments, and this is why I am seeking advise from others who may be more experienced than I. Obviously providing for my family is my ultimate goal and is my first priority. Which is why I am not ashamed to work long hours and low paying jobs to make ends meet. I was raised a rancher and thus dealing with bull#%$ both figuratively and literally is not something I shy away from.
I am simply looking at getting the most I can in as reasonable time frame as possible with a good job growth outlook. As for pay I know with continued education/certification I can boost my income. Thank you all again for the input and recommendations.

Only reason you'd pick a 480 over a 970 is if you need more Vram and DON'T need Cuda Cores. and the only time you'd choose the 1070 over the 980ti is if you need more Vram.

This is a discussion for some where else. Not here. Majority of the people here play more games than content creation. Content creators go for cards with more cuda cores. And have you heard of software that uses OpenCL? No? Because my 280x decodes and renders the video previews faster than my 980Ti using OpenCL.

For them, their graphic cards choices aren't limited to just "970 because it has cuda cores". They will be looking at cards with more cuda cores. For example, a GTX 780 is faster than a 970 in blender cycles.

Hey, I chose a Hybrid over a Lightning for the same reason so I'm not judging  *IF* The rumors are true though in this case the Nitro is almost as far away from the reference 480 to be called a 490. Not even joking. I've seen reports of the Nitro 480 beating a Fury in everything and all things. The reference 480 barely beats a 970 even when Vulcan is used to give it a boost in Doom.

They both cost $269 atm... and the OP's question was 480 or 1060. If the 1060 beats the 970 then I think he will have has answer

Best advice wait for prices to hit MSRP or just a really good deal as well as benchmarks.

I find it funny how everyone assumes the OP is a gamer but its outlandish to think is a 3D modeler... Look up your games and applications and see which card performs best in them. I do VERY little gaming and 90% of my computer is used for Advanced Video Editing, 3D modeling, VFX, Particle Simulations. AMD cards get outperformed in my applications by Nvidia.

Stating facts isn't being a fanboy, however ignoring facts with blind hate for a company is ignorance. Have a great day, hope my first sentence helps, OP.

P.S. I have no allegiance to a brand and am building a Hackintosh, the first Company to make a new gen card supported by OSX Sierra and a waterblock will have my money.

TriFlix Films got a reaction from AlTech in Are you ready to bend over and donate your organs to Apple?
Kind of agree, while I'm sure this feature wasn't hard to add... the legal hoop that they had to jump through were probably pretty great.
Just think a tech company should spend their time on improving their tech... this impacts me little to none as a mobile phone user... Sure if I or someone I knew/loved needed an organ this app would be AMAZING but the truth is... I'll have to buy that when the time comes. Right now I just want my tech to work.

I never really identified myself as an apple consumer but I am not against the idea. The problem is their products are not price competitive. OSX, FCP, and Garageband are great. I dislike their hardware and mobile devices very much so. Since I am not their typical client it won't impact me at all... Just seems like and odd move for a tech company they has continuously released DoA products to markets.. I am looking at you Apple Watch!

Remember when Samsung thought they would replace h.264 with h.265 in the camera industry... Then the withdrew from the market because no one wanted their weird new format (even though it is much better than the predoccessor)   Not saying Samsung will withdraw from phone or storage, but that just because Samsung has an idea (even if its a good one), the world doesn't like change and it will be a long time before thiss becomes standard.
