I don't know the UK layout fully, but just double check if that layout is good to you. Like the symbols on the right are laid out differently.

So at that $1000 - 1500 price point you can play 4k Games but not at the mentioned ultra settings, as for VR it would be fine, personally unless you're willing to spend more i'd aim for 1080p maybe even 1440p at a higher than 60hz refresh rate? sound okay? if so i'll help you build a PC

JackDoyne got a reaction from ErykYT3 in IPhone X Thoughts
Don't get me wrong i liked the simplicity of an Iphone and still would recommend an Iphone to anyone who tech knowledge is limited, and wants a simple phone to use that's snappy and has an outstanding camera
as techy point of view android is the best it offer far more customization and features when compared to an Iphone, based on the fact Iphones will always be premium priced phone even if they don't cutting edge specs like Samsung offer for less

JackDoyne got a reaction from PCGuy_5960 in IPhone X Thoughts
Oh cute, Apple rolled out yet another overpriced smart phone last night,
As someone who's used an Iphone i really cannot see why anyone would invest in the Iphone X (10)
This phone is essentially a dumbed down Galaxy s8 with no finger print scanner that costs almost £300 more
Why would anyone buy this when the Note 8 is £100 cheaper than it? you get more phone and more features.
The reason this will sell is to people who want animate emojis which will quickly become boring and for simple people who can't their heads around the "complicated" AOS
Honestly, hats off to Apple if this actually sells well considering facial regimentation didn't work properly last night

A small form factor 1050ti , it won't be smashing crysis at 4k anytime soon, but it's more than capable card for the money, it a relatively new card too! i don't have one myself but from what i hear if you want solid gaming performance look this is the card!

Fair play, glad you solved it,
Given your situation and the other persons situation, bottlenecking seemed the more obvious problem, but if you've solved no need to worry now
Happy gaming!

JackDoyne reacted to ssyed in Need Advice on setting up a network
hey everyone
I am a total beginner when it comes to networks all i know is how to setup a wifi router ( basic internet settings and passwords) and a printer onto that network
heres what my needs are
my pc has 2 TB of storage i want to expand it but instead of adding more HDDs i would like to add a central data storage point which has to serve two purposes download U torrents, and make the data accessable over the network
i want the videos on this storage device to be available on all my mobile devices (laptops tablets phones ) and a Smart Tv.
I also want to connect a 3d printer to this (using octopi )
i want to know what components do i need. what is the best hard disk for this purpose. do i need to change my current router and buy a new one( if yes then which one?)
FYI i do have a raspberry pI (Rpi3 model B)
i know the information i have provided is kind of vague and BLAH ! but please give it a read and try to decipher my post
thank you for your attention
any and all advice will be hugely Apreciated

JackDoyne got a reaction from beanhubbleday in What is a patch panel?
Yeah thanks for the help
For example,
Downstairs in the comms room we have a patch panel and a switch below it,
A huge wad of cables come down into the back of the patch panel with ends cut off
they then go into our switch
and upstairs we have floor ports with each of the rj45 jacks marked with a number that corresponds to the switch port number back down in the comms room
the other day i was connecting phones,
and i connect a small switch upstairs to port 54 in the floor and then connected our router downstairs to port 54 on the switch and the all the phones came to life with the power of POE
-
JackDoyne got a reaction from beanhubbleday in What is a patch panel?
Woah, i'm an apprentice so i knew some stuff like what a switch did what routers do, but not everything, i'm looking at certifications so i wanted a clear understanding of the basics before i jumped in at the deep end
My understanding was we had to plug into a patch panel port number 1-56 and that number would represent the port in floor box upstairs that we could then plug devices into
-
JackDoyne reacted to beanhubbleday in What is a patch panel?
Hey man, so the ethernet cables are ran from RJ45 plug sockets in the wall or floors or wherever in a room and they are ran through ceilings, floors whatever is easiest then they come to the patch panel and you strip the end and split the colours into the back and it basically means you plug the wall socket into the switch to make it live as you would 'patch' your cables from the socket into the patch panel and and then link the patch panel front ports to the switch making the ports live
-
JackDoyne reacted to The Benjamins in What is a patch panel?
A patch panel, networking or not, is just a connection panel to make it easier to connect/swap connections on devices or locations.
a network patch panel could be wired to all the rooms in a building then the panel can be easily connected to a switches or routers.

JackDoyne reacted to typographie in Difference between m.2 and PCIE
By PCIe I assume you mean something like the Intel SSD 750 that literally plugs into a PCIe slot like a graphics card or sound card would. M.2 is just a form factor and a slot. Some M.2 SSDs are still SATA and perform no differently from ordinary 2.5" SATA SSDs, and some are M.2 NVMe which communicate over PCIe.
I assume there's not much performance difference between NVMe SSDs that plug into M.2 versus those that plug into PCIe directly. Both are supposed to get 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes, so they should have the same bandwidth available. Any performance differences would likely come from the drives themselves.
