cummerou1 got a reaction from x-eagleeye-x in Experiences with non-techies
Colleague of mine wants to upgrade from a PS4 to PC. Tells me his budget is around 1000 pounds and he wants it prebuilt from a specific website.
I put in a build (5600x, 3060ti, 16GB 3600MHz RAM etc) and explained to him my rationale (get a cheaper aircooler to save money on the budget, it will be enough for stock speeds and then in 3 years or so when he needs more power he can add a high end air cooler or water cooling and overclock it, don't need more than 16GB of ram, don't add a HDD, get it cheap used instead to save money on the budget etc).
He then comes back the next day and tells me that his mate knows a lot about PC's and he took his advice instead. The build from the other guy was 200 pounds over budget, included an i7 9700K, water cooling, a 1050 ti, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD.
He was obviously really excited about it and wasn't gonna change his mind, so I congratulated him on switching to PC and just mentioned that while his current GPU is okay, he's gonna need to switch it out for a better one eventually.
It's just frustrating that he's gonna get a PC that will end up being 500 pounds or so over budget (assuming he sells his 1050 ti for 100 and switches to a 3060 ti or something) when he could have gotten a PC that was just as good or better for a good bit less.

cummerou1 got a reaction from paddy-stone in Is anyone else having trouble getting hold of a case?
Yeah, fair, thanks for the advice. It's also a bit of wanting to support good business practices. When Gamers Nexus reviewed the case they came up with a list of critiques, Lian Li then contacted Gamers Nexus and worked with them to address those critiques to make a better product, instead of pulling an MSI or Nvidia.

I restarted a couple of additional times and prayed to Lord Gaben and suddenly it worked, got high GPU usage and good FPS now, but thanks

Already got the latest drivers, have a 750W PSU, how would installing the GPU in a different slot help? It's only a problem in this game, not in any other games.
Anyway, can't do the last one since my case is too small to have my GPU any other places.

"Less popular fetish" what the hell is that? You want the ladies to use a gtx 1080 instead of a dildo? "Oh yeah, put those 9 teraflops of performance inside of you, i want to see you explode like an fps counter with 4 way sli".

Worst part is that it actually works, even with things it should not work with.
My phone could not charge, displayed the charging icon for 1 sec and then it disappeared. Restarted and it suddenly works. HOW THE FUCK DOES A RESTART HELP MY PHONE CHARGE?
Also had a problem when i was traveling to Germany, no data, calls or texts, rebooted that shit and it worked.
Whenever i tell someone to restart and they ask how a restart could help with their problem i just tell them that sometimes technology can be a retard and needs a restart to work.

cummerou1 reacted to AshleyAshes in Best way to come out to my parents?
If you think they'd react negatively, as nice as it would be to say 'They are your parents and they will love you unconditionally' the realist answer is 'Maybe don't test the conditions of that unconditional love until you are not dependent on them for shelter or food'.

Fair enough, i would just make sure you can actually get that visa (read up on rules) before doing anything.

I had a client that while i was troubleshooting his network attached printer told me that when he tried to unplug the ethernet cable sparks went off from the port. I was like WTF? I couldn't figure out what is wrong, so when he tried to do something trying to recreate situation he screamed that it happened again... There was no sparks of course - it was blinking orange ethernet port LED reflecting from his hand that he had no idea was there

I have to agree with her if you talk like that. It's not because you are some rich kid that you need to tell everyone how much stuff you have and how expensive it is, NO ONE CARES.
People really don't like those kind of persons...

friend ends up with ram and psu pulled out staring blankly at me...
me:"ok well there's a start wheres the processor..."
friend points at the ram and psu and says "i forget which one of these is the processor."
brother in law punched his laptop right above where the hdd is located and wonders why it doesn't work anymore and i quote
"worked fine, i barely punched it, and now it doesn't work what a piece of junk"
