I upgraded my own computer with this, for the exact same budget a while back. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Draconid/saved/#view=wHqyf7

You could use a Ryzen 3 instead of the Ryzen 5, and possibly bring down the RAM speeds (although Ryzen really benefits from high RAM speeds) in the PCPP list above.

I think this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Draconid/saved/#view=8CZKZL will be just above £200, also I've just noticed in the title of the post you've put "£200 upgrade," in the post itself it says "£300."

Definitely, save up and get that Ryzen 5 1600, I've got one and would recommend it to anyone.

When I get a test that has questions I´m supposed to answer, I read the questions and have to go exactly by what they are asking. This question, I´d tell them to fix it.
Even if you allow them bad wording and assume that you´re being asked which is the best medium for backing up data, you still can not answer the question because they didn´t say what shall be considered best, what kind of data needs to be backed up and in which form it is available. Just think of libraries that use film to make backups of ancient documents --- you could argue that the result isn´t actually a backup and that film is optical storage. I would answer that for all intents and purposes, the photography of the document is a backup, and even the best one that can be made with current technology (otherwise they would have a different way), and that film is probably not what they had in mind when they mentioned optical storage. But they didn´t say or ask that.
They also did /not/ ask in any way for long term storage, and I have to assume that they intentionally didn´t ask for that. So what the hell are they asking?
Sorry, I´m too stupid to answer questions that bad. If someone thinks they can question me, they need to get their questions sorted out first.

Check the conditions on the plan to make sure it won't void your warranty or anything when you upgrade.

Check with the terms of the plan to make sure that you would void the plan if you replaced the storage.

It's largely just transistioning between DDR3 and DDR4, since DDR4 is now the current standard.

for that price range there is a much better option. like get a e5-2670 (used) on ebay. and a x97 lga 2011 mobo. cost about $320 for both..
the e5-2670 is a 8 cores 16 thread beast. grab some ddr3 and a gtx 970. you'll have a nice beast @ a great price.

E5-2609 V2 was released in Q3 2013.
I believe you can 4core/8thread CPUs in that price range, which might help in such applications. You could take a look at some i7's, if you do not need Xeon-specific features/hardware.
And on a side note, CPUs last for a very long time unless exposed to very extreme conditions (overclocking/voltages).

Supercian411 reacted to Duranvolt in Intel Xeon for Workstation
First time builder here. Been lurking a while and finally wanted to pull the trigger on my new workstation. I'll mostly be using it for 3D programs like Maya and Zbrush and some light rendering.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Intel Xeon CPUs and how they hold up.
My budget is limited so I was thinking of getting the Xeon E5-2609 V2 (Amazon)
This one is a bit older, released in '12 I believe, so I'm not sure how well it would hold up now or if it'd be worth getting. Please help!
