was gonna come in here to say Lethal Company has been a great one lately but see it's already on your radar 😄

Among Us is another one that makes good use of proximity chat now too but Lethal Company really is the one that finally perfected it IMO.

Without a doubt, Hell Let Loose.  Been gaming for over 25 years and HLL is on of the best online experience I have ever had.
99% of all players are extremely friendly and helpful yet we always end up laughing and doing weird things.
You can't really play well in the game without a mic. Its basically mandatory at this point.  Its a 'hardcore ww2 shooter'' without it being so realistic as to be boring.
It might be a bit too serious for what you are looking for but I am always having the best of times when playing HLL-
It has squad chat and proximity voice chat.. Nothing like a ww2 tank driving past you at full speed blasting ' My Milkshake''

that's the price for being bleeding edge. While it's nice, RayTracing is very much a maturing technology still.

You can count items in Powershell and sort through a designated set of folders so yes, you could build a script for this. Does a script already exist that you can copy/paste from somewhere without doing it yourself? No idea

kingmustard reacted to LAwLz in How are cheapo DLNA / Miracast dongles?
I have some experience with the more expensive models and I'd say those weren't great. At least not in my apartment where I had quite a lot of interference.

I wouldn't count on those dongles working very well. Why not use a chromecast? It's not that much more expensive.

Please note that the cast button won't work for Miracast. You can mirror your screen using miracast (using the screen mirroring function), but it will be lower quality than Chromecast will give you. That's because with miracast it will be your phone downloading the video, and then it reencodes your screen and sends that over Wi-Fi. It will be an additional video encoding step, and your phone will try and do it quickly to avoid latency (which means quality isn't a priority).
With a Chromecast, you essentially just send an instruction to the dongles to fetch the video. Then the dingle itself becomes the device that downloads the video and plays it. It will as a result be a perfect copy of the video itself, rather than a reencoded copy.

Yeah, dp to hdmi adapters are relatively cheap and plentiful on places like Amazon. I'm personally using straight dp to hdmi cables in my setup that are working fine, though I know some people who report issues with those specifically so your mileage may vary.

The adaptors are probably your best bet, a DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter should be easy enough to find with good reviews.

    @kingmustard-- added some more here...

I second @emosunhere. Only if the current CPU is struggling. Also, AM5 requires new board. Most new boards are at least pushing if not requiring DDR5, meaning new RAM, meaning more cost. Also pushing, if not requiring PCIe4 storage, a further investment. Quite simply, my 5900X screams with DDR4-3200 and a PCIe3 M.2, so I don't see where all that is really necessary.

You really don't notice the speed increase above 3,500 mbps, and AM4 has been funny enough about RAM, I don't know if I'd want to open that can of worms with an entirely new standard without a lot of testing of kits.

A 5800X3D can probably use existing board and RAM without issue and I really don't see Zen4 being necessary or cost-effective for at least a few more years. Hell, my 5900X hasn't broken 5% CPU utilization since I've had it.

Don't count on price drops. Hasn't happened until recently and they certainly haven't been in the wake of any new releases in the past couple years.

so here is the next question: Which company should I buy from for DisplayPort? doing some google searches I am finding cables that are all-over-the-place (1.0 to 2.0).

there really needs to be a way to test these cables without getting some really expensive equipment... right now, I'm looking for 2.0 cable that is about 6feet for my needs. so I can be proactive for my next monitor upgrade. my current monitor port is 1.4. right now, I have no idea what version my current cable is. who knew that a company can fuck up a cable.

I posted about this on the video to but on this topic, DisplayPort cables are a massive issue as well.

I got "VESA certified" DisplayPort 1.2 cables from my local store which were absolutely terrible. They were 2M (6.6ft) and my screens just kept blinking randomly, especially in heavy motion. They were approx US$12ea (about $40 NZD for 2)  I eventually upgraded to some other "branded" 1.4 cables which while much better, my primary monitor still kept blinking during games. These cost me US$35ea (about $100 NZD for 2).

I since got some "VESA certified" DP 1.4 cables from Amazon which were just some random off brand. These cost me approx $80 NZD for 2.
They are 3M (10ft) ones which actually fit my desk better since I have a standing desk...means I can actually raise it now. But the big win is that i've had absolutey zero issues with these. They looks nice, are nicely braided, a quality connector housing and just over all extremely happy with them. Sometimes going for the brands isn't the best option.

I switched to DisplayPort from HDMI when I moved to 1440p and 4K monitors, so have been on DisplayPort for about 7 years now.
I honestly find it to be much worse than HDMI for finding decent cables that work without problems.

Already mentioned by 5 others so I am simply echoing their sentiments: Is it possible to test Displayport? Level1techs had a whole video about how some DP cables are causing all kinds of problems. He specifically mentioned how people tended to get good results from Club3d.

Imo debunking audiophile snake oil is not as important right now. We have people struggling to get their gaming to work normally on DP and it's only going to get a lot worse when next gen DP is the norm.

Also uh, somehow Monoprice has a dp2.0 cable for sale already.

We told you we’d do it, and here it is! Testing a whackload of HDMI 2.1 and 2.0 cables to find out if you’ve been wasting your money on cables for no good reason.

Data from tests is attached to this post. If you are an educator or otherwise have a legitimate reason for wanting to look at the .json files from each test I will provide them, but shoot me a DM. For most people the PDF results will be more than enough.

Got a jank work around one.  Not great and very possibly not the best solution: if you’ve got SPDIF you could get an adaptor and plug into that instead.  SPDIF is always just 2.0 stereo. Have to go from the back of the machine, and it wouldn’t solve the front audio problem.  Assumes that SPDIF is attached before processing though.  It’s supposed to be but that doesn’t mean it is.  Might work.  Might not.
