There is a buildup of charge in the system over time. When the PC shutdown, there isn't really anywhere to expell this charge, but for some reason your motherboard have it so that the power is most easily expelled through this LED.

    Nothing to worry about.

i would get faster memory i was running slow memory like that and switch and worth it but that all a bigger psu like a 650w but that would last awhile

First i would recomend getting another internal hardrive or tear the external drive apart and put that none inside (Less chanse of someting going bad physically to the drive.

    My assumptions
    GPU: 2-3 Years (AAA Games 1080p med/high 60fps)
    RAM: 4-7 Years
SSD: NOW (128gb in my opinion is way to smal for a os drive in 2021)
PSU: After CPU and GPU upgrade probably.
CPU:  2-7 Years (6 Cores that can boost at ca 4ghz will be good for a long time for 1080p i believe but you can never totally know)

samiur got a reaction from Slayerking92 in Will my motherboard blow up if i use i9 9900k ?
Recently i got my hands on a i9 9900k for relatively cheap price
But i dont have any Z series motherboard
    Currently i have :
    Gigabyte H310M m.2 2.0 motherboard https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/H310M-M2-20-rev-1x#kf
    8x2  DDR4 2133 MHZ Gskill Ripjaws Memroy
GTX 1660 Super MSI Ventus XS OC
    Gigabyte P550B PSU https://www.gigabyte.com/Power-Supply/GP-P550B#kf
    Cooler Cpu : https://www.thermaltake.com/ux200-argb-lighting-cpu-cooler.html

So if i put that i9 9900k into that system and just regularly use it . Will the mobo blow up or anything ? I know its a dumbest idea to pair an i9 with a 300 series platform . But i dont want to buy an expensive motherboard tight now. So will it work at stock speed with decent temps?

I would like to add a counter argument to the non-argument "get a SSD" however there really is no nuance to this conversation and you should get a SSD.

Hello i have an old ROG laptop which i occasionally use for gaming. It has an i7 6700hq cpu , 12 gb of ddr4 ram , gtx 970m gpu (3gigs) and a mechanical hdd 1 tb. So i was hoping to upgrade the ram and ssd . But i can only manage one upgrade at a time. So which component should i upgrade first ? Ram or an SSD.??

SSD. No sense to upgrade anything else on that system.

For the GTX 970M you should be able to keep it to just high, I was able to maintain 60fps+ on 1080p for years on my i7-4720HQ+GTX970M gigabyte P34Wv3

Static electricity can also cause interference and cause the monitor to refresh it's settings (it may think the signal has changed or something).

samiur reacted to Glenwing in Can Ryzen truly triumph over Intel's recent gen cpus ?
It should be roughly equivalent to Haswell, per core per GHz. So it won't match Skylake or Kaby Lake unless it's at a higher frequency (unlikely), but as long as it's close it can be competitive, the pricing just has to be tuned so that it undercuts intel. If it gets 90% the performance of Skylake for 15-20% less money, it will be compelling. And that won't be hard to do with the higher 6-8 core parts considering how much Intel charges for those, and considering they are still using Haswell/Broadwell architecture, so they don't have the slight IPC advantage that Skylake/Kaby Lake does.

It's a different person asking each time so it won't do much good to complain about it.

The HDD isn't always active if there's an OS on it. If it were, you would be replacing your HDD every few months.

A HDD would be just fine, the main problem would be Windows rot getting accelerated by each forced shutdown.

In that case the HDD will be just fine. Windows however may want to do a disk scan upon startup. Let it do that.

Looking at pictures of your laptop, I would recommend this for your laptop cooling pad based on where your intake vents are located.

laptop components are generally designed to tolerate fairly high temperatures. typically anything under 80-85 C is perfectly fine and within normal range. so your temperatures are actually excellent and well under the safety cap.

Those temps are great. I bought the same laptop 3 days ago and get similar results (max out at 85*C). I'd recommend updating to BIOS 300 as that one will keep the fans at max when under high load or temps get high.

As for a cooling pad - I doubt you'll need it.

always good to have a laptop cooling pad. As far as temps, that is on par for laptops.

samiur reacted to porina in How to secure erase my ssd and what's the benefit of doing it ?
Given there are no SMART problems reported, and there is a high life remaining indicator, it should be good for a long time. Just check in occasionally, like every few months, and only consider action if that changes.

I would just allow the software to clone the drive and not worry about secure erase.

After you have cloned, installed and booted from the SSD, you might want to run the tool in Windows 10 called "defragment and optimise drives". When used on a SSD, it force a TRIM operation on the drive to help make sure it is ready for high performance.

@samiur IMO its a good choice you made. The 1060 seems to be a hot card to shove into notebooks. Ive got a GTX 970M with 6GB of VRAM (Razer blade 2016) and it plays GTA 5 (Only intensive game ive played recently) on all the highest settings with no problem.

basically. the 970m is a great card. and you made the right decision not paying 900$ for the 1060
