★ Coups ★ reacted to pbx2 in What cablemod do I need for this GPU cable?
The braided one equivalent will be just an 8 pin, That's a 6+2 which only exists so that power supply manufacturers can save money and cater for two different connectors with the same cable.

    Example from my computer:

Correct, I'm not sure what kit you have but just make sure it isn't an EPS 8 pin, The PCI one will fit very easily whereas the EPS one will not.

Look into the Corsair Sabre mouse if you want a good mouse on the cheap and want to stick with Corsair. Or the Scimitar Pro if you play MMORPGs.

PSU and hard drive should be okay. I think the PSU is some sort of 500w one, perhaps silverstone. I'm not too sure and he has no idea whats in his system.

If you know that code comes with Asus Rampage V Edition 10. I can dig out my motherboard box & look through it. Since I will not be using any CableMod products ( I create all my cables from scratch).

Solved by adding an external USB hdd. Slow but better.

the greatest advantage the pi has over the clones such as bananapi is the community. As well as being cheaper.

you'll have to port forward to the pi, this setting is on your router. You'll want to set up something like https://dnsdynamic.org/ so that you can have a web address rather than having to tell everyone your new ip should it change.

Do remember you're be allowing public access to your pi and all your data so keep it up to date, just look at wanna cry and please don't use user:pass as the login. Make it secure.
agree with this, though headless might save on resources Linux is light any way, my Ubuntu budgie desktop stills at 700 mb ram used and gpu around 0~2%.

You could be a NAS I have a dlink share centre 320 that I use for my file back and used to be for media play back but I have since moved that to my desktop.

I think we need a new "hug" smiley for the forum. With all of the arguing and negativity popping up on the forum I think adding such a smiley would be beneficial for everybody here so they could throw it out there for those who need it (some more than others).

Idle temps don't really matter. Test for load instead. Your temps aren't low but won't cause any harm to the cpu. If you don't have thermal paste, I'd suggest getting some ASAP.

You don't need to purposefully avoid FreeSync just because you use NVIDIA. FreeSync monitors will work just like a normal monitor on NVIDIA cards, and it doesn't add anything to the cost of the monitor (which is why it is called FreeSync).

Seeing as how you have a 970 my recommendation would be a good 1080p 144hz monitor.  In that case I would look into this monitor:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-MG248Q-Gaming-Monitor-Adaptive-Sync/dp/B01DO6B83E/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1480706402&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+mg248q

I use the 1440p version of this monitor and it's great.  Haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.  If you have more money to spend you can get a gsync version, but this will do nicely with your graphics card.
