Marinatall_Ironside got a reaction from Bensemus in German Union suing YouTube for billions over unfair conditions for Creators
Advertisers are legally allowed to advertise their product/service to whoever or whatever they want. They're even allowed to pull ads if they don't like that person/group/organisation/corporation and find someone else to advertise to.

The image of a company is always at stake. If they advertise on someone's platform whose image isn't associated with the advertisers themselves, that can and will hurt their reputation with the buying public who sees these ads posted on those channels. So they have to carefully pick and choose where to post their ads. PR is a royal pain in the ass to do, and you can get paid good money making a company look good just by spinning up some good sentences and get good results.

Would Forever 21 or some other modern clothing line want to advertise on a channel who's a hater, "toxic", ultra-conservative, or otherwise not associated with their brand image or what they aspire to be? Nope, that's not going to fly at all.

    https://www.blender.org/press/epic-games-supports-blender-foundation-with-1-2-million-epic-megagrant/

    Through their press release:

Epic is certainly continuing their recent habit of throwing money around, but it's not just going to game devs it seems. Over the years, Blender has become a more well known name in tech, reaching gaming, modeling, visual effects and other applications. Anyone can download Blender and dive right in. There are even children who are becoming (relatively) proficient with Blender. This relationship makes sense - Blender being a readily available and free helps lower the cost of entry into these various fields, especially game development. A partnership of any type between Blender and Epic, the creator of Unreal Engine, simply makes sense.

My thoughts are pretty much that. While I dislike the Epic exclusivity bandwagon, I can support ensuring awesome open source projects of this nature are well funded.

OK, how about your entire paragraph:

You blathered on after quoting my entire post, and you didn't acknowledge one bit of what I wrote.  You're too focused on music (re)production and aren't bothering with any of the connectivity aspects of the device, nor the specific bits that Creative adds for gaming.  Their DSP trumps anything provided by <insert USB DAC here> and so does their software

     FOR GAMING!

Further, since this is a brand new product, it's priced accordingly.  Creative is going to want to recover R&D as quickly as they can, and the price will likely fall in a few years.

You clearly don't like it, so: don't buy it!  But please stop thinking your background in "music production" somehow gives you some sort of insight into this whole topic.

The mistake you and a bunch of others are making is that you're focused purely on the DAC.  There are, obviously, far more to the entire sound card than just the DAC itself.  There's the driver interaction, the external connectivity, the DSP, as well as how the DAC "colors" the sound.  All of these things can make a difference in gaming; perhaps less so with music consumption.  I've used a bunch of sound output devices on my various rigs: on-board, discrete PCI(E), and external USB.  For gaming, I always come back to the Creative line because I like the configuration options they provide, I like how their DACs color the sound output, and: the damned games just sound good through them.

I'm not consuming music with them; nor am I watching movies.  My PC is a gaming rig, and that's all it does.  And for that, I find Creative's sound cards far more enjoyable (there's that subjective thing) to use.  I like that I can connect my mixer up to actual line ins and line outs.  I like that I can run a true surround sound output through said mixer and use the 5.1 studio monitor setup for single-player campaigns.

In the end, I'd recommend easing back on the "snake oil" references and calling those out that buy these cards.  Some of us have actual reasons for it and can appreciate the differences they bring.  Even if you can't.

The Hero is quite tempting for me too, as it seems to be the only board playing the 'chief support' role that actually has some USB ports on it. The rest of it's rivals are lacking heavy in that area. I'd have bought the MEG ACE at £360 if it had just 2 or 3 more USB3 ports on the back because the price of that thing is so attractive. It seems like the manufacturers have gone overkill on the VRM's but neglected everything else in the process.

It is supported, it does something, it's bigger than gaming, and if you don't like it you don't have to buy RTX, you can buy NAVI.

That disgusting GPU waterblock shows exactly why NOT to use distilled water.
Even though it is deionised at the start, it picks up ions from all the metal components in the loop, becoming acidic and corrosive.

A properly designed liquid cooling fluid is PH balanced and has specific amounts of anticorrosive and biocide that are all compatible with eachother.
Ideally you would buy a clear premixed fluid too, not coloured.

Singularitycomputers always used mayhems fluids and has nowhere near that kind of damage after 10 years inside customer PCs.

    This is a funny one.

Seems Twitchs original antihero Dr Disrespect has fallen foul of his own arrogance. He announced an IRL stream from E3 and as promised yesterday he went live from the event. During a multi hour steam he, on multiple occasions, streamed from the bathroom and caught/showed both his own friends and members of the general public urinating live on stream.
It's unknown if he's permanently banned or not though that is pretty unlikely, usually Twitch does a 24hr ban for first offences.
Both Ninja and Slasher both took to social media to share opposing views of the ban.

Dude deserved it, you don't live stream from a public toilet which people are actively using and not expect a punishment. I'd like to add that Twitch have gone from zero to permanent before though that's been in cases of explicit content, it depends of whether Twitch deem this explicit or not.

Marinatall_Ironside reacted to indrora in Was RTX a big scam? – Performance & image quality analysis
First off, I'm enjoying Anthony's style. Calm, collected, and a nice flip-side to the often energetic Linus. Linus is great for telling us about the Hot New Thing, but Anthony has a fantastic, slightly slow-burn style that works well for technical overviews. @GabenJr -- Please, pitch more of these sorts of things! Find a topic that interests you and just write a script, even if you end up putting it on a personal channel!

I think the conclusion here isn't as clean-cut. Was it a scam? Not really, in my opinion -- as Anthony said, NVidia has come first to market and we're seeing the ripple effect of early adopters getting the kinks out. For those of us old enough to remember when eight times speed CD-ROM drives were the hot rage, I remember the occasional discussion as to if you needed anything better than 4x -- you'd saturated the controller on your sound card (yes, kids, sound cards ran your CD drives back then!) and there was dismissal as to if you'd want it. After all, you'd have to slow down for the CD audio!

Thomas J. Watson, late head of IBM, is often quoted as saying that there would be a market of maybe 5 computers in the world, with others making similar statements. In the 90s, there was debate over the need for 3D accelerators in pairs or for high-resolution textures, high framerates, if online gaming would ever catch on, and even a hot take article in Boot Magazine that said, effectively, "3D games won't be popular, 2D board games will." In that same issue, they even had the truly bad-in-hindsight spicy take from Alex St. John, one of the people behind DirectX and later the founder of WildTangent, that Java would die a painful death... and look now: one of the most successful games on the planet is written in Java (Minecraft), the most successful mobile OS on the planet runs on Java (Android), and inside most every ATM cards and SIM card is a tiny version of Java, in many places in the world used for everything from banking to just general account management tasks! (JavaCard)

I suspect it'll take a few years before we really get the hang of rayracing on the GPU (How many people remember "VR" being the hot thing in marketing land and now we're seeing sub-$1000 headsets from Lenovo, HP, Acer, etc). It'll take time, tooling changes, and developers having time to work out the kinks. When CUDA and OpenCL came along, there were only marginal gains over traditional software processing, but now we're seeing more things running on the GPU than ever before.
