If you can find the antennas, you can do a hack job to make them into directional antennas by making aluminum foil based "dishes". It'll get you more range, but then you severely limit your coverage.

Industry standards would state that you always ground yourself with wrist strap at least, preferably with a ESD mat and bags. Weather you do that is up to you or not, their is always current flowing to the path of least resistance, its a matter of how much electricity is flowing from your body to the component. You could send enough of a shock to blow a capacitor and the unit never works, or you could send a tiny shock that could cause intermittent issues and affect the lifespan of the device. Industry standards exist for a reason, however regardless of what you do, at least use good anti ESD habits (no carpet and socks, no polyester, work on high resistance surface (wood), don't touch people that have a different electrical state, keep yourself and the device at similar electrical states (touching PSU/case should help), ect.).

Go to the Device Manager and look for devices that are not correctly detected.
Rightclick -> Properties -> Details -> Hardware IDs
Copy one of them to google and look up what device it is and go to the manufracturer from that chip/device and install the driver.

Get the GPU driver from the manufracturer too and not from Lenovo.

If you see no use in them, don't install them. If you do, install them. But at first always assume you need none of them.

First you'd want to make sure all network connections between the computers actually get a gigabit connection. In windows you can find it under Network and sharing center -> Network connections -> Ethernet status.

Then you indeed want to make sure your computer can handle the data rates.
For that you could build a temporary RAM drives to make sure the storage speed is not limiting the transfer.
(I have confidence in your googling skills so I won't post a link here)

When you confirmed you have a gigabit link and you then tested it via a RAM drive on both ends and still got a 10MB/s, then we start troubleshooting.

I would say yes wear one, or arrest remain contact with the case the whole time.
Yo8 don't have to see or feel the discharge of static electricity for there to be damage to a component. And the component can work, even if it's got ESD damage. A circuit can be essentially blasted away or only partially. Partially still leaves connection for current, but can burn out.
I have had clients bring in hardware that is damaged by ESD, and they just assumed they put it together wrong. I wear them because I value my money. I don't want to lose a piece of hardware because I was being lazy. If you can afford 200+ for a GPU, you can afford the 5 bucks for an antistatic wrist strap.

Also, those antistatic bags work great on the inside. Don't place components on the outside. The outside will hold a charge, so putting a CPU, GPU, or RAM on it can damage it, so that's why the ESD mat is always suggested.

Just remember that ESD doesn't only occur when you can see or feel it.

Can't say I've heard of the Testout Pc Pro cert. However, I have definitely been around for the CompTia. Certs themselves won't necessarily get you a job right away, but will help a bunch. If they are available to you and you feel confident, get em!

I myself was tight on money through college and avoided taking certs, but have since finished school and landed a good job working for the government! It's all about how you communicate with others during the interview that lands you a job. Best of luck!

Don't worry about the pay right away, if this will be your first job then you won't have experience to leverage yourself for more pay until you do get that experience. Just take it as it comes but do everything you can to maintain positive relationships.

Even when things get stressful, and it WILL happen no matter where you work, take a deep breath and think about your actions. Wait a while before you do perform any actions and re-evaluate after some time has passed. Try to leave your jobs on a good note, and give 2 weeks prior notice.

Remember though, once you have some experience under your belt and can prove that you are worth keeping, you can politely ask for a raise or once again, give a 2 weeks notice and look elsewhere. @Paytend01

If you google your graphics card of interest you should be able to find the "exact" height of your card, I know newegg most of the time post the size of the graphics cards, example for a gigabyte 1060 on newegg it states the size as 8.78" x 4.76".  Most cases designed for ATX motherboards will work with almost any card. What you can always use is a riser cards or PCIe extension cable to fit into special or unique form factors.

    hopes this helps!

Probably a energy savings setting. You can check energy settings in windows, or maybe your laptop has software on it that also makes certain energy saving rules.

Should be. I would use nitrile gloves as they aren't likely to contribute to building up a static charge. Though be warned, they will make your hands more sweaty

Unless you've got hands that literally drip sweat, I don't see why there should be too much of an issue without gloves. Just be careful not to touch any of the contacts.

Your laptop hates windows 10. Ten can run on 4 GB, but its really better to run on at least GB. People/Microsoft also recommend you run ten on a CPU that at least clocks at 2.4GHZ (thought this can be a wavy line).  Basically, your hardware cannot optimally support your software, you had an older version of windows I would roll it back or use the appropriate recovery media. If worst comes to worst you could install linux for fun.

not even to speak about how thunderbolt and fire wire give you direct access to the full RAM. code injection and extraction is incredibly easy trough those ports. there is literally no safe guard to prevent this behaciour.

It isn't like we haven't been able to trick the login screen into giving you a command prompt since Windows XP (to be fair, you didn't even need that, just type "administrator" as a username, leave password blank and hit enter 3 times was usually enough for Windows XP to let you in...)

If you don't know why that's shitty, look up what the command "net user" can do (as an example).

So I currently work at geek squad in an entree level position. I can tell you that when I was originally hired I had no certifications or degree and was not in school at the time for any type of degree, but they do help to have. First thing you have to do is apply. I recommend that if you ever see any job regardless of any "requirements" it states you need, that you still apply and fill out any sort of application they have. After all if you don't try you will for sure not get the job. If you can at least draw the attention of the hiring manager they will get you in for an interview where they will ask you questions to see if your really interested/fit in the job. Again like any job showing confident, having some experience with interviews/ being prepare (which varies from job to job and person to person) and showing skills in what ever your apply for also goes a long way.

When I went for my interview I had tailor my resume to fit better to show my skills for geek squad and highlighting my other skills in similar fields (Retail), knowing how to do this regardless of job helps a lot. I also had a fair amount of interviews at this point as I had been doing 10 interviews within the last month, since I was going out of my way looking for a new job. One thing I had gone over in the interview was how I was super passionate about computers, how I had been involved with them since I was a kid, built my own and a couple of friends computers, repaired a bunch of different game consoles, that I am the "Tech guy" for most of my friends, that I keep up with recent technology through pod cast (Wan show) and various news outlets.

I can tell you right now that I have since gone back to college to finish my computer science degree, Have a couple smaller scale certifications, am taking my Comptia A+ in a month. Its really depends on who you talk to on if you need a degree or certifications or/and just experience. I honestly don't have a clear answer for you for what is more valuable, as I don't have one myself and that topic would take a couple paragraphs to really highlight all sides and why different people have different views. But I do think that the more of any of these you have will always help. I remember Linus in one of his older videos stating that one of the things that really helped him was just actively participating in forums and helping as best he could and being open to all and any input.

For what its worth my current logic is that I am going for a basic Computer Science degree (since its super flexible (like what @Maxxie was talking about locking yourself in)) to get a leg up over some people and to show I cared enough to go to college, then I will use certifications to show my specializations. (I plan on going into networking field at the moment). Don't feel like you have to have it all figured out or do it like anyone else, @almondhive brought up a lot of good points. After all you are you and not me or Linus or anyone else out their in the world.

Anyway, I know I like to ramble and I am very tired. I hoped this helped you.
