JMY1000 reacted to NumLock21 in Asus X99 Deluxe faulty ram slots?
I ran only 1 stick of ram and tested out each slot individually and all of the grey slot works, while all of the black ones doesn't. Called up Asus on it and they say, there is nothing wrong with the board, it's just the way how the X99 chipset works. In order to use the black slots, all of the grey slots must be populated first. What that mean is with a total of 8 ram slots (4 grey + 4 black), all of the grey slot must have a stick of ram installed. When that's done, then the 2nd memory controller will turn on and let user installs additional ram into the black slots. This does not apply to just this board, but for other Asus X99 boards as well.

$1000 for a mineral oil tank seems a bit much... It's a bunch of acrylic. Cut in on that fancy laser cutter?
Anyways if someone wants one I've got a spare one that I'm not using. Dunking components in oil is scary.

Got my like on this video. I won't say I like and share every video–that's disingenuous. I'd like to think of myself as something more than a blind fanboy, but putting out quality content will get my like, so you get it with this one.

With that said, I have a genuine complaint about the titles and descriptions (more so than the thumbnails, but they go hand in hand.) The issue I'm confronted with wasn't spoken about in the video, and given your interest in finding new viewers, I think it's a tenable argument. Because of the clickbait titles, it can be difficult to search for and find content relating to a specific project. "WORLD'S UGLIEST KEYBOARD" may be memorable and get clicks, but without relevant information in the description, it's harder to find when searching and when scrolling through said results. In the case of the keyboard video and Ryzen 5 performance preview, these were non-issues because the important info was in the description, but I'd like to caution against it.

I get the point of these tests is entirely for fun, not for actually testing the performance of your machine, but still, the way the tests were presented in the video was kinda stupid. Why?

Most of these tests aren't very multithreaded or GPU heavy. Tests 1 and 2 are physics computations and–to my knowledge–none even use GPU accelerated physics. Most physics calculations are single threaded CPU calculations (though I know not all of them are), and rely on calculation after calculation being performed on a single core. Test 3 used a game (Minecraft) that barely utilizes the GPU at all as well. Just "throwing in better hardware and seeing what happens" isn't too interesting. Instead, analyzing what hardware actually would've helped (like looking at CPU load core-by-core and GPU loads) would've been a lot more interesting. More varied tests using things like particles, fur, or whatnot (like the stupid large sheep test in ARMA III) would've also helped make the video more interesting. Showing ones that scale well would've also been interesting, as they could be used as alternatives to actual test programs like FireStrike for those of us who are too poor to spend money on a benchmarking utility.

Anyways, interesting idea, but poor execution.

Also, why would you place all the TNT by hand instead of using commands...

In the latest WAN show at 32:00 Linus says he's been invited to speak onstage with the Razer CEO at PAX. I couldn't find any events in the PAX Prime 2016 schedule with either Razer or Linus (the closest I found was the location of the Razer booth on the show floor.) Does anyone know when/where this might be occurring?

It’s Thanksgiving, so I wanted to share some of my thanks with you. Without you, I wouldn’t have known about the wonderful world of PC gaming as it is today. You are who I look to for a source of digestible news, taking in the vast world of PC gaming and allowing me to see it in a light that makes it easy to understand. I trust your insight, and from it, that I can make educated decisions on what to buy (or, what I’d like to if I had the money). It’s nice to see quality content with rich discussions (be it the forums or during the WAN show) about tech and the wonderful, strange, and confusing world it can be. I look up to you guys as an idea of what’s great about our PC community.

    So, really, thank you.
