Thank you all for the respects. I feel better after realizing I can replace it for a small $50 now lol. Time to hang this one up.

This is unfortunate. I had just started running this thing again after getting my 980 AMP Extreme back that I had let my friend borrow for a couple of years.

It's done great for weeks. Everything was perfect. It wasn't OC'd or anything. I knew something was up a few days ago. I was playing WoW and it kept freezing up on settings it should handle fine. The 16GBs of RAM were barely being used. Tonight I got in from work and the wifi adapter kept cutting out. Then it was freezing up when I tried to open the network settings...just real weird random stuff I've always experienced with dying CPUs. I restarted the thing and it was working fine. I went to finish downloading a WoW update and there it went. I tried to start it back up and my Z68 FTW was giving the dreaded "C" code. I prayed it was the cheap Cougar PSU so I hooked up the HX750I from my 8350 / Fury Nitro build. Kept doing it. I took the water block off and checked to see if my pins somehow decided to bend themselves. They're all great lol. Everything else works. Fans spin like crazy. Everything is powered on. RAM is seated well. I have absolutely no reason to believe it's the board...especially with the previous warning signs. Honestly I'm glad it wasn't the board...things a future wall hanger.

Just sad lol. I loved this 2600K. It was the first CPU ever where I was blown away by the performance when it came out.

KarateHottie93 reacted to mariushm in Anyone know where to get this screw?
It's most likely standard imperial (american standard) UNC 6/32 screw, like the one used to screw the video card to the case, or the ones used to mount the motherboard to the case.
If not, it's most likely M3 (metric 3), a bit thinner and a bit finer threading... like the ones used to mount optical drives to the case.

If neither of the above are working, then next most likely is UNC 5/40  (like the hex screws on VGA connectors or serial/parallel ports)

There's some old Dell and HP towers and mini towers that hinged open like that too, a real pain if the mechanism got rusty or sticky from not being opened for 20yrs but otherwise nice because you just had all the parts out in the open. Some HP SFF systems have hinged drive bays that swing up and away to clear board components too which is handy.

question is why dont other case do something like it? if your going to say it cost more ya but this was a $120-$150 case so...no excuses there

While convenient for getting in and out of from a manufacturing stand point they are more expensive to make and are yet another place where fitment can be messed up thus increasing QC costs and rejection rates maybe not by a lot but over thousands of cases those costs add up rapidly and to cover them would price the cases over non hinged cases.

If you really like the feature then you just have to shop within the market segment that has that feature and be prepared to pay heavily for it.
I do the same with both my work boots and computer cases. Mining boots are not commonly sold and if you can find a retailer they are special order only thus expensive. Full tower cases with 5.25 in bays are rare and expensive more so when paired with more mundane features like dust filters.

In either case the features justify the extreme expense for my use case.

the Antec Performance Series P120 Crystal case has hinged tempered glass side panel, tool less to remove latching handle. best there can get. imo no thumb screws anywhere.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Workstations have been doing that for years. You release the latch and the door only swings out an inch or so to clear the frame.

Not like the Power Mac G4, where the entire side hinged open and laid flat.

It's a Z68 machine, so they probably meant 2700K. Still nowhere near close to what I'd consider retro, but definitely older.

KarateHottie93 got a reaction from Combo Techs IT Up in I have done my best cable management job ever!
Why is this my best job ever? Well because it's a 700 watt completely NON modular power supply with lots of cables, and it's all in a case that while technically a "full tower", it's really just a mid tower chassis with a huge outer shell. Oh and the board uses dual 8 pin CPU headers...ooh scary indeed!

Still I guess the PSU shroud helps more than you will ever know. Oh and I can't show the back yet cause I'm out of cable ties ?

    Still...tell me it's pretty!

I'm doing two nostalgia builds. One is an 8350/Fury Nitro and the other (this one) is a 2600K/980 Amp Extreme.

Sorry for the awful shot but it's stored away in my van where I can't get a good angle or lighting lol. I just need my ram and PSU to get here and it will be complete. These parts have been through the fucking ringer though and I'll almost be surprised if they all work lol. When attaching the CPU block earlier, one of the foam pads fell off the socket backplate and went between the mobo and it's tray. I'm too lazy to recover it for obvious reasons but it's driving me nuts.

Not to mention the open loop cooler hasn't been pressure tested since I took it apart to replace the pump. The GPU came from Greece to USA and has been sitting in my hot van for a month just sliding around at every sharp turn. The case has been beat to death but Cougar did a great job with the build quality on this one. It makes that Corsair 780T next to it feel like a tin can. The mobo is an EVGA Z68 FTW and it got to me with the heatsinks fallen off and with screws all over the box so I had to reassemble it. On top of everything, my friend's very young niece and nephew have found a million opportunities to take the panel off and touch everything...which is why I keep it in the van still. Oh and most of it was put together outside in the grass lol.

Anyways though, I just need my PSU, my ram, and a few case fans. Does it look okay though?
