I think we really need a sticky on this, or recommend software in general. This question is asked too much. This thread should be a sticky, but of course, should be audited for errors and such beforehand..

    That aside:

For free AV you should either get Avira or Bitdefender. Bitdefender is more lightweight, but it doesn't give you many options in terms of control or how it works.

If you want a paid one then either Bitdefender or Kaspersky. I would probably go with Kaspersky just for the fact that their team has found a lot of security issues in the past. You can also check out AVTEST, a third-party company that rates AVs. (Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the top 2)

You will also want to scan your computer weekly, or whatever amount of time you are comfortable with, with Malwarebytes. Just to be clear, Malwarebytes is NOT an AV, nor should it be used like one. So do not run it along side your AV, only use it is a scanner. Make sure to not accept the trial it offers, and to disable it on startup.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw this. I tried to hold myself together telling myself that it isn't true, that it couldn't be true. But then I lost it, because the horrifying fact was that it was indeed true... I burst into tears and just couldn't contain myself. I smashed that thumbs down button as the tears ran down my face and fell onto my cold shaking hands placed on my keyboard and mouse. Everything I thought I knew, was nothing but a lie. Years of being told this is who he was, this is who Linus was! Was nothing more than just a lie. As I sit there staring at my computer screen still unable to move, my mind moving a million miles a second but still unable to process what has happened. The Linus Media Group that I once loved has shattered my heart into little pieces, right in front of me. For Jesus has returned and reclaimed his sandals! And left Linus with nothing more than a pair of shitty old moon boots from the 80's.....

By (not really) popular demand, here's another gem!

Like I've previously mentioned, I used to work for a (pretty big) ISP. First I was a field technician of sorts (we called ourselves fiber monkeys, since we mostly dealt with installing fiber or connecting new contracts to the grid) then I started working night shift at the support center.

Mid January, minus a billion and one degrees outside.
Me and my colleague were working a weekend shift, which is usually uneventful. Most we get is password resets or remote equipment reboots. No actual work was needed.
Somewhere around 2AM, basically mid-shift, we get a call from an infuriated customer complaining that the modem we provided was utter shit and that nothing works anymore (it might be worth mentioning that the ISP also provided cable TV and a landline - for kiddos, a landline is a fixed telephone infrastructure). Since the landline was separate from the TV and internet connection, it would usually work without the other two.
Anyway, after being called all sort of racial slurs that I don't think would go well with the CoC around here, we decided that we should go see what was actually wrong, since the equipment didn't ping and we couldn't remotely diagnose the problem. Since there were only three of us in the entire office (one of whom had been sleeping for the entire shift), me and the other guy hopped into the car and went on-site. Remember when I said it was minus a billion degrees? My butt froze within the 25 meters we had to walk through knee high snow to get to the car, which was parked outside (thankfully we didn't have to dig the car out of the snow). Butt freezing continues in the car, since the idiot that was responsible with maintaining the fleet never bothers actually FIXING those death traps, so AC was out of the discussion.
35 minutes later, we get to the guy's house. Mid 50s, living with his mom, about as slim as a whale, he "greeted" us with more racial slurs (note that none of them made no sense, since there was no racial difference. it's a thing some "people" do around here) and directed us to the "faulty" "piece of junk"(in his defense, it was a piece of junk, but we had no control over what we provided customers. we only dealt with installing them and maintenance). The "equipment" consists of a digital receiver and a custom-firmware modem/router.

The shit wasn't even plugged in. No power. OF COURSE IT WASN'T GOING TO WORK, DURR. Plug it in. No TV signal. Check the SIM card in the receiver. It wasn't there.
The guy had removed the SIM and put it in his mobile phone so "he could watch TV on it". /facepalm
One problem sorted. On to the next.
Modem wasn't plugged in either. fixed. NOPE.
The external connection (as in the WAN cable) wasn't plugged into the LAN port. it was plugged into port 1. LAN cable from modem to PC was plugged into the WAN port. And port 3 or the same modem. /nucularfacepalm
    Sorted.

At this point it was nearly 4AM and the guy's mother woke up, saw us, got scared, called the police. We were in our work clothes, with the ISP's name and logo on them.
Police comes, almost arrests us for "breaking and entering". Thankfully guy saves us from a trip to the precinct and his mom gets a nice little fine. Cops were as pissed off as we were that we all had to come to this one house on the other side of the city for nothing.

After this entire fiasco, we head back to the office. Third guy working that shift was still sleeping and there were 0 other calls while we were gone. 5 minutes into our asses thawing, BOOM. A call. From the guy. We both said fuck it and woke up McSleepy and sent him to deal with the guy. I've never seen someone talking on the phone be so scared in his entire life.
Apparently the guy called back to complain that his mom got a fine form the police because of us (eh?) and demanded that we pay for it. Fat chance.

Out of pure curiosity I checked the inbound and outbound packet requests prior to someone deciding to rewire the connections (we were allowed to do that; it was even mentioned in the contracts we made with customers). I'm not saying the guy watched some occasional pr0n on his computer. I'm saying the guy had a computer FOR watching pr0n. Every single inbound or outbound request was from pr0n sites. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. I didn't even know someone could watch that much porn.

Turns out the guy was mental and his mother refused to let him take his medication or stay in a nuthouse. Whodda thunk...

Why would you want to do that?

From what I understand, that short bit of power are from the capacitors in the PSU. Capacitors store energy/electricity (don't judge me, not 100% sure which term to use). After you unplug your computer, there are still some electricity left in the capacitors. By pressing the power button, the system tries to draw power from the PSU and uses the small amounts of electricity stored in the capacitors and eventually dies after the capacitors are drained.

EDIT: Disclaimer: I might have actually misinterpreted the concern. So I hope OP would clear this up

Just stay calm and be confident about what you know. Don't try to make yourself "too knowledgeable" or try to impress them too much. that might not be a good idea. Also,  don't think that they are expecting too much from you. Like you said, you're just starting out, and it's not that bad if there are a couple of things you still don't know. Just show them in the way you speak how passionate you are and how much you are willing to learn.

You mean external sd card? I believe you can. In the ZenUI, there is "ASUS Customized Settings" in the settings menu where you can select your preferred app installation destination--internal storage or external. [emoji1]

When I was in the 1st grade, I heard my computer teacher say "Our computer lab is now Windows 98.." or something of that sort. Then, most of my classmates (well, most of the boys) were thrilled and in my mind I was like "So what? What happens if the computer lab has 98 windows? More fresh air?" And I swear in my mind, I was picturing tons of windows.

EDIT: I would also like to add: I was always confused with memory and storage. I thought they were the same. "Wait, this computer only has 2GB? Why? The other one has 500GB." "How come I can store tons of files when it says I only have 2GB 'memory'?"

Almost a year ago, ASUS released the Zenfone series--the Zenfone 4, 5, and 6--across several countries in Asia, including where I'm from (Philippines). I think they wanted to see if their new Zenfone line would let them penetrate the smartphone market, that's why they only released in a few countries. Luckily for them, their "bang-for-the-buck-better-hardware" phones became popular to a lot of consumers, since they are with the lowest prices (if I'm not mistaken) with such specs. Their Zenfone 5 were (and up to this day) is still the best seller among the three. That is why they also released versions of the Z5 with updated batteries and other stuff.

I think this success led them to release a new flagship phone that they can market to compete among other flagship phones in the western parts of the world (i.e., Samsung, HTC, Nexus), hence the "highly upgraded Zenfone 5," the Zenfone 2. Just my opinion, though.

I think the way they market the Zenfone 2 in the US/Canada--low prices and you can buy them independent of data carrier--can really make an impact, even if some features are "meh."

Never done it myself, but I can understand why someone would pirate Sony Vegas/Adobe Premiere or Photoshop (<- although Photoshop has a very good free alternative)

When people used to talk about "building a PC" I though you had to solder everything lol.
That was back in the early 2000's, but I was a small idiot in those days when it came to PC stuff.
Hell, I think I still have some old magazines that talk about how to install a CD burner.
