Thanks for the update. People took it way more personally/seriously than they should have.

Just checking into this since I got a PM that was concerned we were trying to conceal the Dbrand product placement and that was worried about us running afoul of sponsorship disclosure laws. Here's what I had to say about Switch Girl in response:

Clearly we were wrong in the sense that people didn't think it was funny.

It didn't bother me enough to dislike the video because that's a ridiculous reason to do so, but I did find it distracting. I wouldn't have minded if she interacted with Linus in some way, but she was just there, Switch lurking.

meatdeluxe reacted to LinusTech in I think LTT makes up a majority of Vessel views...
IT's late and I'm both hungry and tired from shooting Scrapyard Wars (which by the way is an LTT series and will be airing ad-supported on YouTube very soon for your viewing pleasure).

But there are a few points to address and you've already been patient enough.

I said LMG content would always be free. This was poor wording on my part. There has always been content produced by me and my team that was not necessarily available on a free platform like YouTube.

These "The Boost" videos that we make on contract as a sales training resource for Intel, for example:

In much the same way, Vessel has contracted LMG the production company to create an original series for their platform. They bankrolled the whole thing, giving us an opportunity to make something that otherwise would have been too costly, and per the licensing agreement they own the right to exploit this content. It's their show until such time as they decide it's not anymore.

We played more of a "production company" role in this than we're accustomed to.

This could, and SHOULD have been communicated better, and for that I'm sorry. The community should have heard about this from us FIRST, and not from a random email newsletter, but I've been (and so has the whole team) absolutely busting ass to not only get Nerd Sports produced, but also make sure that we're keeping up with everything else that we've got going on including not having missed a single day of LTT uploads for something like 5 years..

With that said, quantity isn't everything, and I've noticed that not everyone has appreciated the LTT content as much as usual lately, but it's hard for me to tell if that's because they don't like our new direction (fewer reviews, and more exploratory or experimental videos) or if they just saw a video or two they didn't like and raised hell in the comment section - it wouldn't be the first time.. And I will say, too, that honestly if a couple of the videos felt rushed then it's probably because they were.. HOWEVER, the primary reason for the rushed videos was  the entire week we're taking off this week to film Scrapyard Wars Season 4, which will be premiering on Vessel sometime in the next few weeks or so, followed by a release on YouTube 1 week later, which is the standard agreement for OUR content that is paid for by LMG or our sponsors.

Nerd Sports was shot 40% during evenings and weekends with employees taking time in lieu later on when we hire some more staff or when things slow down a little. We were careful to avoid disrupting any of our other commitments because imo you guys deserve the best we can deliver.

Which is another point that was brought up in this thread - "How will LMG keep its commitment to maintain the pace and quality of the other content if they're making Nerd Sports or other contractual content?"

    We couldn't. We're hiring.

I've never shied away from investing in more staff or better equipment or a better facility to make sure that we're doing our best for ourselves, each other, our sponsors and our viewers. If we play our cards right, absolutely everyone wins.

Nerd Sports has been a fantastic learning experience for us, and whether we continue the series with Vessel, create other completely different web series in the future, or just say "fudge it" and flip burgers from now on, we'll be able to do those things better than we could have without having done this.

So bottom line is this. I screwed up the way I communicated "LMG content", which was meant to be content funded BY Linus Media Group rather than content funded entirely by and licensed to a 3rd party, and I screwed up in a MUCH bigger way the LACK of communication about this project. Sorry guys.

I started watching LTT way back when it was just unboxings/overviews, it's progressed so much since then and Linus' comment about being the top gear of tech reviews is pretty spot on. While I don't have the same need for tech reviews in my life as I used to, I still enjoy the channel(s) Channel Super Fun often has stuff worth watching and TechQuickie usually has some form of knowledge that I find interesting.

I'm hoping LMG continues to evolve and keeps its sense of humour

I found LTT back when he was with NCIX and what kept my eyeballs here was the genuine excitement his growing team has had for the field of technology.  That excitement is still there.

Most of his sponsor spots aren't even directly related to physical technology.  Squarespace?  Dollar Shave Club?  Linda Dot Com?  These are his bread and butter.  How anyone can be confused that the company might be leading you down the garden path to get pwned because of a limited number of limited LTT branded products is IMHO taking paranoia way too far.  Heck he had to do work to get Noctua to agree to make those fans in the first place.  LMG probably lost money on those or at least broke even as a tribute to fans.  (pun intended)  So do I agree with everything they say? Hell no.  I hate my HTC one M8.  Bought it on the word of Linus alone.  Am I sore.  No.  I made a bad decision.  My bad.  But I'm off the OP's topic.

LTT and LMG will succeed for a very long time as long as the passion is still there.  This forum is a living demonstration that there is a market for information about technology.  LMG uses LTT to serve that market.  And with their success they have given us, their supporting fans, this forum as a tool to help each other.   Serve your market well and it will follow.  Serve it poorly and buyers will search elsewhere.  Linus knows this.  He's said it many times.   Smart man.  Be like Linus.

    Interesting read.

Some have accurately predicted that we will continue down our current path of focusing on entertainment rather than plain Jane reviews. We'd like to be something of a "Top Gear of tech"

But that doesn't mean that we are (or have ever been) in the business of spreading misinformation intentionally.

I've always believed (though I've seen some recent evidence to the contrary, which blows my mind but isn't my problem..) that if you lead your audience in the wrong direction enough times you will eventually turn around to find out no one is following you, and that's the way that I have, and will continue to run Linus Media Group.

I'm aware that they are really different but I'm only interested in the gaming performance right now and the board will be able to accommodate another GTX card (x99 E WS and an I7 5820k so 7 pie slots) but that would mean I need to get an extra monitor for gaming plus at least $300 for a 970 (one of the only gtx cards that I think is worth it right now) and I don't really have the money to do that

Why Ubisoft, Why? What do you have to gain from this? Your just restricting access to your games. If people had a choice, UPlay wouldn't even exist any more.
Are you that desperate to screw over your last few fans for more money because it is convenient that this is before the Steam Winter Sale.

So according to this KitGuru article, all of the Ubisoft christmas launch games, AC:Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew, have been removed from Steam in the UK, even though they are available on steam in other countries

Reasons are currently unknown, but its probably so they can sell them through UPLAY/Retail at £50 and hide from the steam winter sale

When asked for comment by PCGamesN, Ubisoft responded: “We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK. In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors.”

So yea, this is something interesting. Sennheiser seems to be taking a direction in their marketing and are shying away from the status-quo that every other Tech firm is going for. This latest ad, which looks almost about as creepy as Little Baby's Ice cream ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erh2ngRZxs0 ) shows a guy dressed as a headphone massaging, washing and 'loving' the ear.

EDIT: Since the advert, they have released a few other adverts of the same style ( https://www.youtube.com/user/sennheiserofficial/videos ), definitely spicing up the advert world.

Would you buy a Sennheiser Ultimate? After this advert I sure want one.
