Because every 970 except the strix/EVGA (to my knowledge) have a minimum fan speed that AB / any other software has to abide by, flashing the bios removes that minimum value, so you can turn the fans off.

The strix doesn't have a minimum fan limit, as it's advertised for having the zero fan mode.

    Hey guys!

So as some of you may know, last Wednesday we created and released an Official LTT Discord to the Floatplane sub-forum. We wanted a bit of breathing room and time to fix bugs with permissions, work out rules, and other things before going ahead with a public launch. It seems like we've worked out most of the kinks so we're going ahead and launch this to you awesome peeps over here in the forum and our socials before later expanding to our YouTube community.

There's already more than 4000 people on the server but this is still a "soft launch" for now. Eventually you'll probably start hearing "and check our Discord server @ discord.gg/ltt" at the end of videos, but for now we're just publishing it here, and on social platforms.

    Join the Discord!

PLEASE NOTE: Your Discord account MUST have a verified phone number to chat at all. We also recommend link your forum account to the discord! There is also some exclusive Floatplane member chat rooms, as well as automated notifications for video releases (the floatplane rank will sync when you link accounts).

    Enjoy,

    I did something stupid, haha.

Recently bought a Zotac 980ti Amp GPU.  It worked fine. Gamed on it for a few days before realizing my processor sucked. So i switched my mobo to a z170 and i7 skylake.

So here's what I did wrong. The heatsink for the Zotac card is huge, and doesnt fit in my custom case I made out of steel. So I bought a Corsair bracket to utilize a Corsair Hydro water cooler.
One of the holes on the card didn't line up with the hole on the bracket. (Design flaw I think.) And the screw needs to be there, or else the card bends when you screw down the water pump to the card.
So I masked off the card, and put it in my drill press and moved the hole just a tiny bit in. From what I can tell, I didnt drill through any circuits on the card. But now when I use the card on my brand new motherboard, The monitor won't boot. (keyboard and mouse both stay lit up, and the gpu fan is getting power) I know the board is fine, because I tested another gpu on it, and tested the 980ti on my friends board. (same problem).

I realize that I probly broke it, Just looking for other possible scenarios.  You can all mock me if you wish. Thanks!

Even if you didn't hit any circuits on the surface(visible to the eye), you may have drilled through circuits that are within the PCB itself, which often times are layered.

tech_splitter reacted to WelshDdraig in WOOTING One: The Worlds first Modern Analog Mechanical Keyboard
    Original Article: http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/storage/wooting_one_analog_mechanical_keyboard/1

The WOOTING One is the world first analog mechanical keyboard.
    Wait, Analog? Yes. Analog.

One of the major issues surrounding current mechanical keyboards is the input is digital, 1 or 0, on or off.
That mean s in games, you tend to walk at a set speed, driving involves multiple taps and is no where near as fluid as a controller or steering wheel.

The WOOTING One keyboard solves this by measuring how far the switch is pressed and adjusts inputs before converting to a digital signal, such as a pressure sensor.
You can now walk at any speed you want in a game - something useful on stealth missions when following NPCs,
You can now make minute changes when turning both walking and driving.

Currently the price has not been announced, but the company is aiming for a release this year (2016)

    My thoughts.
This looks freaking amazing. It wont force me to ditch my steering wheel for driving, but it may make me ditch my controller over all on the PC.
The switches used in demonstrations look to be the colour red, and usually that means it is a linear switch, which I would assume it would have to be to measure
how far the switch has been depressed.
That, along with the amazingly clean ascetic design makes me want this keyboard, even though I am more of a tactile keyboard user.
I would love to try this out.

Your thoughts? Please leave them down below!

Edit: Found a gif? of the animation showing how the sensing would be intended to work:

EDIT 2: Some people are questioning how this will work since USB is a digital input. Fair enough that is true, but what I think is happening is they are using an ADC (Analog Digital Converter)? It could be the switch is analog, sends data to a microcontroller which converts the signal to digital.
Thanks to user @Snooli for confirming this by stating thats how it is said on their website. I'll admit, I wrote this article on the video I saw, not the website. If you wish to visit the website you can click the link below!

AMD has been losing too much market share. If Polaris is better AMD could really gain back that market share.
I feel the main reason Nvidia has been coming ahead is thanks of mobile. Their GPUs have been power efficient and so lots of laptops are using them.
If Polaris is efficient and powerful then that would really help them out.

    - Write at up to 388MB/sec
    - Planar 15nm TLC flash
    - No endurance numbers provided (I wonder why)

These drives will not last, the write endurance of planar TLC flash is too low, even Samsung had issues with the 840 EVO series providing multiple firmware updates to circumvent performance degradation.

    However:
These drives will probably be rather cheap, you get what you pay for with this one.

EDIT: lets keep Toshiba's hard drive reliability ect off the thread, its not really relevant to SSDs

Motley Fool's a bit behind. Fab 42 is already being repurposed for 10nm gen 1 since 14nm demand didn't explode the way Intel originally predicted in 2010. Tapeout will begin at the end of this year pretty much as expected. However, 10nm is going to be a long-term node since EUV is just nowhere near where it's needed to be for mass production. In terms of cost per transistor it's a huge step backward for now.

This is basically a continuation of this post:

Like the article says, it sounds like Intel might have had a word with ASRock on removing this overclocking feature. Which sucks, because it means that we might see other mobo vendors do the same exact thing. If you're not aware, SkyOC (or whatever you call it) allows for 'locked' or non-K Skylake CPUs to be BCLK overclocked with selected Z170 motherboards. People buying new motherboards already shipped with the updated BIOS won't have access to the SkyOC feature, unless you flash to an older BIOS (which is a pain in a neck).

So I guess my advice to you is to...uh...not update your BIOS?

you do know how Intel manufacturers CPU's right, all the 1151 CPU's come from the same Silicon wafer. The dual cores are damaged quadcores that they use a laser to cut the other 2 damaged cores off. Of course theres binning in place. IE 6100 vs 6320.

The PCB to all the Skylake CPU's are the same, there is no danger. Only thing in danger is Intel's revenue.

tech_splitter reacted to Master Disaster in ASRock's Latest BIOS Removes SkyOC Feature
How about you stop trying to tell Intel how to make CPUs. Theres very good reasons why they don't allow every CPU to be OCed and despite what the tinfoil hat brigade thinks, its mostly about consumer protection. They don't want consumers overclocking products which are not suitable for overclocking and killing them off then taking to the internet to declare Intel CPUs to be bad and dying all the time.
