Welcome to the Build-Off! The rules and guidelines can be found here.

This week's challenge is to get the best bang for your buck with the components in your parts list. Your budget is $900. Pay careful consideration to things like overclocking. If you are spending $70 on a cooler, are you really getting enough extra performance out of it?

This contest will run from Friday August 16th to Thursday the 22nd, with Tuesday through Thursday reserved for voting.

UPDATE: Added the poll. Let's get some votes going!

UPDATE Aug. 23rd 2013: @WoodenMarker is the winner!

I got it as close as I could to the budget. With the motherboard you will get a decent overclock on it that cheaper boards couldn't achieve do to lack of power phases or cooling for them. The screen is also IPS instead of some cheaper ones being TN or VA.

I chose a 1Tb WD Blue boot drive to pair up with a 64Gb SSD as a cache in order to bump up the speeds in whichever games or programs you regularly use as well as providing plenty of storage.

I want to know how you are going to cache it. As far as I knew you either needed intel smart response or a ssd that supports caching algorithms.

CPU:  AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($129.99 @ Microcenter) Top end APU, for "epic" processing and graphics

CPU Cooler:  Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($24.99 @ NCIX US) Decent cooler to keep it cool

Motherboard:  Asus F2A85-M PRO Micro ATX FM2 Motherboard  ($89.98 @ Outlet PC)  Asus, nuff' said. supports high speed ram

Memory:  G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory  ($70.99 @ Newegg) Going all out, 2133 ram, 8gb. plenty for the GPU

Storage:  Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($82.99 @ NCIX US) 7200RPM and 1TB, good speed/amount.

Case:  Cooler Master HAF XB (Black) ATX Desktop Case  ($79.99 @ Newegg) Decent case to keep it cool. Good front IO and future expandibility

Case Fan:  Silverstone AP181 130.0 CFM 180mm  Fan  ($16.98 @ Newegg) Extra fan for either the heatsink or exhaust for the haf XB

Power Supply:  XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply  ($45.98 @ Newegg) Plenty of power for future upgrade like a discreet GPU

Optical Drive:  Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer  ($19.98 @ Outlet PC) OPTICAL DRIVEZ. may aswell have it for flexibility and oldschool stuff.

Keyboard:  A4Tech G800V Wired Gaming Keyboard  ($24.99 @ Newegg) Decent keyboard

Mouse:  Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball  ($39.99 @ Amazon) Mixing it up. Trackball mouse. Gaming with it is quite good and saves space by not having to move it around.

Speakers:  Creative Labs A220 9W 2.1ch Speakers  ($25.56 @ Amazon) Picked the closest priced speakers that one could get a decent headset for.  Personally prefer a full headset.

Total: $810.65

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

$868.41 without rebates, so it stays under $900 in-case for some reason you can't get any rebates at all

Top end APU with high speed ram to cover all your processing and graphical needs. Enough power to handle a future graphics card upgrade later on down the road. Very nice and expandable case. Overall a decent system with plenty of upgrade options later on.

With rebates, could possible squeek in 16gb 2133 ram if you so desire, but 8GB is enough for a system like this.

i7-720qm 1.6GHz | Acer Aspire 8943G motherboard (Al ram heatsink'd heatpipes)  | 16GB Kingston 1066 SODIMM | Radeon Mobility HD5850 1GB GDDR3 | 750GB WD 7200RPM HDD

"Sitting exposed on top of my printer" case (insane airflow)

$97.47 leftover to cover almost any set of headset you'd want.

It's up to you to add in the sound system. With $100 left over, you could put some of that toward an SSD, for example. Just make sure that you update your post with the new part list.

Explaining some of the parts :

The monitor is a IPS grade panel so outstanding picture quality as we know.

The case i chose because it has got USB 3.0 front panel and the motheboard i chose also supports that , i didn't go with the MSI one because they don't have a heatsink on the VRM which bothers me .  FX-6300 because it is awesome for the price . The cooler performs excelent and you can oc the 6300 to at least 4.4 GHZ with it which is nice. Also i'm going to cache the HDD since i find caching under-rated and it really proides a nice boost to the system performance without much extra cost ( of course not using ISRT but third party caching software.) Also the mouse i chose is a really good value IMO. The headphones are awesome for the price , i tried them irl at my philips store and liked them , only reason why i didn't buy them is because i had a 40 euro buget and i chose something better but for 16 bucks you cant go wrong with these.

Well this was my entry :)

You won't be doing any heavy overclocking--that's why. It works and there's little point in paying more for something you don't need. Paying more for unnecessary things is the bane of bang for buck builds.

Even when you don't overclock heavy, your VRM can start to get really hot when stressed which results in throttling the CPU which again affects the performance.

I doubt it'd get too hot at all. The Hyper 212 Evo and the case airflow should be enough to keep it cool.
