Now, I was under the impression that building a PC yourself is much cheaper than a "custom"  pre-built PC. But I suppose I was wrong. *sarcasm*

Your friend pick the amd cause it's a 6 core cpu with a overall lower price. Try to get a 5820k with the same price range.

Your build is a hell of a lot better. Now you can always change the case you recommended and get some LED's/LED fans to give him the same feeling of when he saw that computer.

 

People who are new to PC's tend to think that bright lights and fancy things equal better performance. This tends to be true for the Water cooled build's they tend to fantasize over haha.

GPU is now a bottleneck. This is for gaming, not rendering. If it was for rendering, I would have him go with a Xeon E3-1231 V3.

390 is basically a 290 with 8GB of vram and that build has a core i5 not a core i7
