HyperX Cloud or HyperX Cloud II?

Made In Canada

So ive decided to go with the HyperX Cloud II (thanks to the LTT community, you guys and girls are awesome), but when i did a bit of searching, i saw a post by someone (not on LTT) about how the sound card and software make the hyperx cloud II worst than the original hyperx clouds.

My question is which one should i get?

The hyperx cloud II has 7.1 (surround sound), a sound card installed, and is in a matte/ glossy gunmetal finish.

The hyperx cloud (original) has 2.0 (not surround sound), no sound card, but is in a matte/ glossy white finish (same as my pc).

Those are just their main selling points, the more accurate stats are on newegg (canada).

Usually a soundcard would make the sound better, but according the the persons post (not on LTT), it makes it worst.  Not to mention the software complaint on the II version.

Extra: The original clouds have slightly more sales with a higher average (or overall) rating rating.

What should i get?

the software is fine. it sounds the same, like seriously if youre that worried about it  make your own gaming headset. With a 2.0 headset and a modmic 4.0 it will be better than any gaming headset

I have a pair of Ones, only complaint is that the headband doesn't extend as much as I would've liked it to.

If the two's fix that then I'd go for that.

Can you run a external audio device through the sound card like a mixer? If that's the case I'd pickup a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable with that headset and plug in my phone to listen to music.

EDIT: I have the white ones, can confirm that it is NOT A GLOSSY finish. It's matte, which is still pretty nice.

hyperx cloud, surround sound is useless.

It's a god send when playing an FPS. People will call hax on you.

Soo the hyperx cloud II sounds like the winner.  Hope they come in white.

Thank You all for the help.

Oh, the built in soundcard doesn't matter at all really.

The USB dongle isn't very good... Almost everyone complains about the static that it creates. Also, the Cloud 2 has a 4 pole connector, so you can't easily plug it into a computer.

Also, honestly, if you "need" surround sound, you can just get the Razer surround, which is free. In the audio sub (which is where this should have been posted, since you're talking about headphones), the answer that you would have gotten would be for the cloud 1, which all around is more useful, and is priced more in line with where it should be...

Soo i should get the hyperx cloud 1 for $20 less and later if surround sound is needed, worry about it then?  Because if the hard to plug into a pc if true, im not getting the II.

I mean, in order to be able to plug the 2 into a PC without the USB adapter, and have the mic work, you would need a 4 pole to dual 3 pole splitter.

Again, you can use the free razer surround software if you want to try that out, so I wouldn't even bother with the Cloud 2, unless the color scheme really appeals to you.

This is not for all of the headsets, but my experience with the cloud 2 was pretty bad. Had to return the first one I gotten I had to return the second. It was because of the soundcard issue. I have no idea if they've fixed it but just to warn you. I now have a qpad qh-85 which is pretty much the same as the hhyperx cloud 1 but instead it is open ear.

isn't the qpad qh80 literally the same thing, just different branding?

I doubt that they have fixed the usb dongle issues, it's just too common of an issue to ignore...

Simulated surround sound in gaming is preference based.

I agree with the headset but idk about razer surround, if i really need the 7.1, i might go with a different headset.

You can, but it's literally the same thing. Surround sound is all done through digital processing, so...

imo 7.1 = trash

Stereo headsets have no problem with directional sound, its most often the game's fault.

Here, close your eyes and test

also try razer surround and test the differences with your current headset in games.
