Hyper X cloud 2 alternatives?

Godospartan

I've been seeing so much technical craze over the last few months, it's been a wild ride for me to learn so much so fast everywhere... and im sick and tired of fumbling.

I am looking for a possibly cheaper, but as good if not better, alternative to the Hyper X cloud 2. the reason's i am looking for an alternative for that specific headset are as follows:

7.1 surround

closed ear design (if there exists a headphone with an option to close an open ear that would be amazing)

no mic

long openings, the HyperX cloud's have that oval that fits well over taller/bigger ears

great sound overall, nothing is cut short or overbearing.

EDIT: and possibly velour or cloth earpads

If there is anything, i'd be happy to hear it. if not, i might need to go for the CLoud 2's. but im just checking with people who are more than likely more knowledgeable than i am

To be honest, I doubt there is any, with an impedance of 60, few "gaming" headset can provide good sound, though I am not a supporter of gaming headsets I would either get the Cloud 2 or the Cloud.

i never did say gaming headset, did i? and i did motion no mic, due to headsets having rather poor ones in general. (am looking to get the blue snowball)  the cloud 2, for it's 7.1 integration, is 20 more than the cloud 1's, if it wasn't for that i'd grab the ones, but i would like the choice of surround sound, for games to be on and music to be off. im listening to youtube, netflix, music, and games. there's several stero's, and a good amount of surround demand there.

You didn't need to, its a gaming headset the way its promoted now the use you give it is another story.

the HyperX CLoud's, one or two, are gaming headsets, you are correct, and i did say those in the title and as a question, that's right... however, you can now see why i had asked for ALTERNATIVES! the reason i chose the HyperX Cloud design was because of it's earcup style being a taller oval, not a small circle or box shape. not to mention the options it has available for leather or cloth earcups, and the rather impressive sound that Linus, hardwarechunuck and awesomesauce even suggested for the pair.

and why would that be? don't get me wrong, i watched the virtual barber shop and everything, but i've tried games with stero only, only to find a virtual 7.1 is very good and actually helpful when needing a direction. so for me, 7.1 surround is usable and helps me out when i need to know where things are coming from.

Not gonna lie I used Razer ?Synapse and configed the surround sound and my Cloud 1's feel, like they have it. I turn to the right the sound is faintly in the left ear cup but loud in the right. Vice versa.

the free surround sound "for any stereo headphone/headset" is from razer with their synapse unit, yeah.

as for the cloud 1's and their feeling like it, you describe it how it is. as in order to get "directional" sound, there needs to be levesl, frequencies, and proper placement in various places among the drivers to your ears. but a part of me would rather not use Razer's stuff, free or not.

Never had a problem w/ Razer except for the piece of junk Kraken Pros that shouldn't be legal to sell.

So wait what is wrong with the Cloud II's they are currently the only thing worth looking at sub ~$150 or so.

realistically, the 100 dollar budget doesn't REALLY concern me as much as i find it does, however, after finding what looks to be a Cloud unit headphones (no mic at all) no optional earpads, ONLY velour, and what looks to be 50 bucks less than the cloud 2's (with no 7.1) i figured i'd ask if there's anything cheaper for the options available. because, in a way, 20 bucks just for 7.1 sounds a bit ridonculous

still, i'd like to avoid them as much as possible. if i have to use it with CLoud 1's in order to get 20 bucks cheaper for what is essentially the same headset without the 7.1 dongle, then so be it.

Its your best bet for free. Also you said no mic so just get a nice pair of headphones from any of the good brands. With Razer's software you can use any headphones or DAC/AMP and itll work. Most other stuff is hardware locked. If you want the best software surround look at Creative as they actually have it show up as 5.1 or 7.1 to the computer then down sample to 2.0 so they are not "creating surround". The game sends surround and their software makes it work properly with two speakers.

construction quality, sound quality, and the design of the earcups. that;s why im even looking at the hyperX clouds. the takstars or whatever they were for 50 bucks, no 7.1, open eared, and no option for earcups, just velour, though that's not bad considering i wanna try em. though the option would be nice. but looked like good cheaper alternatives from the clouds.

however, if i have to choose here, then i might just get a cloud, be it one or two.

EDIT: also, just asking, creatie surround software? is it free, and where do i get it?

Look at Beyerdynamic DT 770 for a closed back. The bigger brother to teh CLoud is the MMX 300 and that's based off a DT770. If you want semi open get a DT 880 or full open a DT 990.

Its because they give you a usb sound card that can do 7.1. That's teh nice thing about teh cloud is that its just a standard analog headset. The Cloud 1's actually have a better mic from my experience and there are some other small changes from the 1 to the 2

Their surround is dont via hardware though their soundcards like the ZxR which is currently dropping on Massdrop https://goo.gl/QCLmFn (1 day left on the drop BTW)

i figured, but after seeing the takstars set i thoguht i'd ask around instead of fumbling in the dark. clearly the clouds are amazing. Kingston ain't playing around with their gear, i know that much. so now just need to figure out 1 or 2.... you said there were differences, sucha s 2 having worse mic sound. whilst the mic isn't a big deal to me, im worried what other changed, for 20 bucks, the cloud 2 is infirior to the 1...

Cloud 2 has more options and is more of a complete package. the Cloud 1 is just a standard analog mic

the 1 may not have a noise cancelled mic the 2 does this is why thw sound quality may have gone down gotta hit that price point

If yo ulook back there are videos around the 2's launch that note the differences
