Samsung EVO SSD 850 Not recognized by Windows 7 setup

Go to solution Solved by Patrick3D,

Your motherboard does not support AHCI, I would try upgrading to Windows 10 through Windows Updates within Windows 7, once it has been upgraded through there you can try doing a clean install. Also, if you are creating a bootable USB, create it using the MBR option instead of GPT for the partition type. On the other hand, you might need to create a bootable DVD instead.

You're not going to get the maximum performance benefits of your SSD without an AHCI capable motherboard. Consider upgrading it.

Hi.

I was trying to install a clean install of Windows 7 and upgrade to Windows 10 because its such a wonderful time to upgrade OS and upgrade to an SSD.

My motherboard is this older Gigabyte P41T-D3P.

The bios recognized the drive and the previous installation of windows as well. I even made a NTFS empty partition on the drive. But the Windows setup wont recognize the drive...any ideas?

Thanks for help... The HDD is dying....

Is the BIOS set to AHCI mode? check all cables again.

I cant find such a mode on the motherboard....

There is usually IDE, RAID and AHCI.

It's usually under the storage tab or something like that in the BIOS.
