Good PSU for a Fractal Define R5?

Jm1289

Hey all,

I recently built a new rig for serious gaming at 1080 and 1440p and decided to go with a Fractal Define R5 as my case. It's been a great case so far, but one of the big frustrations I've had is cable management.

The case itself has great cable management, but the PSU I bought for it, a Seasonic G-750 has some of the shortest cables ever and it's only Semi-Modular (which I only realized after I ordered it). Even in a mid-tower like the R5 the cables are too short. I was barely able to route the motherboard power cable and I had to stretch the CPU power cable over the GPU.

Any suggestions on a good PSU that's at least 750W, 80Plus Gold and good build quality? Preferably if you use this case, what PSU's have you had good luck with? I'm looking for a Full-Modular reliable PSU that has long cables and works well in this case.

I'm powering:

Intel Core i7 5820k @ 4.0ghz OC

Asus X99-A USB 3.1

16GB 2400mhz DDR4

2x Samsung 850 Evo (Raid 0)

1x WD Black 500GB HDD

MSI GTX 980ti

Here's a link to the build on pcpartpicker with photos:

Thanks for any help!

Seasonic Platinums, they are modular and mostly passive until you go over 40~60% load

Get a G2/GS series PSU from EVGA.

They are really good for that price.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

Thanks for the replies. I'm partial to Seasonic and Corsair, but I've heard good things about EVGA. How is the build quality on EVGA PSUs? Quiet?

my RM750 fits nicely, some of the cables feel like they were made to size.

and if anyone comes to shout at me about RM750, please provide factual evidence of it being *actually* bad.

The psu's cables shouldn't be too short. Just flip it over so the fan is facing down.

I'm not sure if the extra two inches or so from flipping the PSU would make that much of a difference. In addition to the built-in Mobo, CPU and 2x 12v connectors, the actual modular cables are pretty short too.

Not all EVGA PSUs are good. Check out the PSU whitelist in my sig. Nonetheless the good ones are dead silent and perform well.

Most of Corsair's psus are from CWT and not Seasonic. http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page447.htm

the length of the EPS12v connector on the Seasonic G is 550mm.

Antec High Current Pro 750w Platinum : Effectively $105.98 USD if you don't mind doing rebates. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371083

The 8pin EPS12v connector should be 650mm. High-end PSU made by Delta Electronics.

EVGA Supernova 750w G2 : Effectively $105.99 USD after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G28N0668

700mm  connector. Another high-end PSU made by Super Flower (Leadex Gold platform).

The rest of these won't met some of your criteria (efficiency and/or modularity).

Cooler Master V750 : $101.99 - no rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171094

630mm - A very good mainstream unit made by Enhanced Electronic. Not to be confused with the higher-end, fully modular V-series (they are Seasonics KM3 units that are made to compete with the two units mentioned above).

EVGA Supernova 750 B2 - $79.99 after MIR : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438028

700mm - cost down Super Flower Golden Green unit to Bronze (may achieve silver efficiency.

Or while, it may not be optimal, just get a EPS12v extension for like $3. Your current PSU seem to be working, so I rather not deal with the down time and the potential DOA that occur due to poor handling during shipping and/or QC defect at the factory.
