Slow download on Steam

Hello guys, my friend asked if I wanted to play some games that he has on his account. So, now I'm downloading Payday 2, but it is downloading at 1.5MB/s, and it should be 6.0MB/s.

Don't confuse MB with Mb.

8Mb = 1MB.

 

How fast is your download in Mb (megabit)?

Every time I download payday 2 steam plays up on me. Pause it and try downloading another game for a bit and see what the speeds are like.

Run a Speedtest and see what you get. Also is your Steam download settings set to unlimited?

 

Are you paying for 60mbps down from your ISP?

No, he's in Amsterdam and Im in the middle of the Netherlands, we're not even close to eachother :P

But your internet is probably 1.5MB/s

And, my ping is around 5-10, so I think it has to do with something in Steam settings or Steam servers being a bit slow(?).

Maybe something else is running in the background 'consuming' bandwidth.

Try a speedtest at http://speedtest.net/

It's probably peak time/load on servers atm. 

Honestly by the time your finishing with this, you probably have the game done download as 1.5MB/s is fine.

I did the speedtest with the download paused.

 

I'm Dutch, if you want translations (in pic), ask for it =)

 

EDIT: speed is up to 5.7MB/s on Steam now. Thank you guys!

get the uk download server instead of the one based in the netherlands, you can edit this in your settings
