Need a gaming CPU


Should I get AMD X4 860k or i3 4160? I have a budget of $550 and I'm using this PC just for gaming.

I want a gaming PC that can run all game 1080p 60FPS!! But unfortunately, I don't have money and I'm too young to have a job XD

i3 hands-down.

No. 4 vs 2 cores REALLY starts to matter nowadays. 4 cores will beat 2 hyper threaded cores.

i3 IPC is waay more. Same thing with i7 vs FX 8XXX, the i7 wins because it has more IPC and HT. Same thing for the i3 vs X4 860K.

Cause dual cores can run shit these days. Developers are moving away from dual cores and into quad core now a days. If ur running minecraft then go for the more cores. Even cod is turning away from dual cores. I use to say intel a day every day but in this case I'm team AMD.

the i3 beats the fx 8350 in almost every game. plus, because of the hyperthreading, applications see it as a quad core.

I'm mostly playing modern titles these days. Such as BF4, Dying Light etc. But  I'm also playing something like League, CS GO and many more. It's like 50/50 for me

Look do u want better performance now and being able to run games 1-2 years from now or stick with crapper fps and be able to run just about any game from now and a few years down the line.

i3 has Hyperthreading.

 

Hyperthreading is nice and all, but they're no match for physical cores.

 

I voted for the Athlon in this case.

there is no comparison between these CPUs. the i3 is a much better CPU.

I think the i3 should be compared to a fx 6300 cause their around the same price. And the fx-6300 has 6 cores. Btw I'm a intel fan boy.

AMD : less money for more cores but weaker cores.

Intel: stronger cores but more expensive .

well i have hands on experience with a 860k and a i3 and I can tlel you straigh from user experisnce the 860k is better.

did you look at that chart? :P the 860k is in a different price bracket for a reason. the OP wants a build for gaming, and the i3 clearly offers better gaming performance. ;)

That graph is... Questionable. Look at the R7 260X I3, how does it get 15 more fos that the i7? If they make that big of a mistake, I don't trust the graph.

there are going to be random variances within the graphs. that will happen when you are testing this many different hardware configurations. this isn't meant to be an exact measurement as much as it is to give you a general idea. if you want to get a better idea, look at the rest of the article with other games. Sebastian said himself that in cases like with the 260x, he tested it several extra times to make sure it wasn't just a glitch.
