GPU Name Mixup Help

How can I fix the names on my cards in the folding slots list?

I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 650 Ti Boost to a GTX 970. When I did this I moved the old GPU from slot 1 (PCIe 3.0 x16_1) to slot 4 (pcie 3.0x16/8_3) and put the 970 in slot 1. My goal was to allow the 650 Ti Boost to fold in the background when I played games but to keep the 970 focused on my game while I played. However, when I paused the folding slot named "970" (id 2) and tried playing my game, I found out that every game I had would stutter like I had my 970 folding in the background.

MSI Afterburner (my preferred monitoring software) and Asus Gpu Tweak (my OC software) agree that the 970 is working while the 650 is idling. I tried reinstalling the software and deleting and recreating the slots but the problem persists.

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to correct the GPU names so that I don’t have to remind myself to disable the 650 slot if I want the 970 to stop folding.

P.S. A preemptive thanks for any help.

You might be able to do it through the Advanced control by right clicking GPU 1 (or the one that says GK106) and clicking fold but don't quote me on that, I don't have two GPUs to try it.

Doing that just activates my 970 (GM204). My issue is just changing the names not individually activating them. Everything is fine except that F@H calls my 970 a 650 and vice-versa.

Go to your FAH configure button, then on the slots remove the GTX 970 as a slot all together so only the 670 will be there

My PC:

The 970 slot controls the 650 card and the 650 slot controls the 970 card. I can figure out the manual wways to circumnavigate this issue but my ideal fix would be to fix this name issue. Following

Go to your FAH configure button, then on the slots remove the GTX 970 as a slot all together so only the 670 will be there

this suggestion means that I have to delete the 650 slot and ignore the fact that F@H thinks the 970 is doing it and in the end achieves the same effect as TheMcSame's suggestion. Thanks but it still doesn't fix my problem.

I can stop the 970 from running while leaving the 650 in the background. I just want to make it so that the slot with the description "gpu:1:GM204 [GeForce GTX 970]" isn't the one controlling the 650 and likewise for the other gpu slot.

I'd turn it off, take the 970 out. Then assign the 650 to folding, turn it off and put the 970 back in. I really don't know that much about folding, but this is worth a try.

i had this issue when i had 2 290x's and a r7 240 all in the same mahcine... and one of the 290x slots controlled the 240 and it was anoying but as far as i can tell its a bug and youll just have to deal wiht it untill someone can address it...

so if removing the 650 stops the folding on the 970 then just deal wiht that and know that when it says folding on a 970 its actualy using the 650... not like anyone else can see it and be like "omg why is your 970 getting such low ppd" so id just remove the 650 and be done wiht it... there isnt any ill-effects form it misnaming it. but if you are that worried about ti displaying the right name try physicaly moving the cards slots. it wont effect gaming performance but can someitmes fix the misname issue.

You need to try messing with the GPU-Index and Opencl-index numbers, as mentioned. But, this can also bugger the cards up for Folding.

In the end, it is a bug, and one I haven't had much sucess fixing. It doesn't affect anything as at the core level FAH knows which GK GPU you are using. Just know that to game, you pause the 650.

One thing, remove the 650. Uninstall and make sure you delete all WU's. Install FAH with only the 970. Let it complete a few work units. Then add in the 650, and add a GPU slot with the defaults. This may work.
