gtx 690 upgrade? what card to get? gaming at 1080p

RTX MONSTER

Hi guys,

As the topic states I'm shopping for an upgrade, my gtx 690 is starting to struggle at 1080p with max settings with new games coming out, the 2gb vram just isn't enough anymore.

I was thinking of either getting the gtx titan z or the titan x. I know they are both for larger resolutions but I'm trying to buy big now so I don't have the same problem like I did with the 690 and its vram.

I live in Australia, and I can get either card at a good price but I'm just confused as what path I should take. I want nvidia nothing else but I'm open for suggestions. Aesthetics is very important to me also.

Any help would be great.

Thanks GtxMonster

Rule of thumb is always go for the single gpu, less to deal with in terms of functionality. the titan x is currently the fastest card on the planet, and you would definitely benefit from it.

Well a Titan Z is a horrible card for gaming.

The Titan X is a great card for gaming, but expensive.

Since you want a "Future Proof" card, then the Extra VRAM on the Titan-X would make it a good choice.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Two 980s are not out of the question, personally I do like dual GPU cards, but if I get two let's say 980s then wouldn't I have to upgrade my PSU? Currently I have a corsair ax860 and 4770k is over clocked to 4.4 so I'm not sure if I've got much head room to have two cards? I don't really want to upgrade my PSU if I can avoid it.

In terms of performance is the titan x faster then the 690? I was favoring the titan x because I can always get another card down the line if need be.

The 690 is still fast for for 1080 but the vram is its downfall. What I'm trying to say is, if I upgrade to a titan x, will I get better performance then the 690?

Thanks GtxMonster

I'd say they're very similar in terms of actual GPU power but Titan X has the VRAM benefit... However if you like dual GPU cards and play games that support CF/SLI, just get the 295X2. Better performance then the Titan X for cheaper.

maybe I usually buy my gear from pccasegear.

690 not enough for 1080p anymore ? Holy moly...

not at max settings for the new games coming out, the speed is there but the 2gb vram is the problem.

Thanks GtxMonster

Oh yeah i forgot, Nvidia scums were marketing it as 4GB card back in day, thought it has 4GB per GPU, my bad.
