if youre building a PC based on manufacturer instead of performance youre going to end up with a bad rig and wasted money

instead of fanboying about one brand or another, pick the parts that perform the best

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

Why were you thinking of going with AMD at this price point?

There's a price bracket where AMD > Intel+Nvidia actually make a good rig for the money, and you're actually saving.

so? there are intel+amd builds that will perform better than the two options you listed above

especially since he has a $1k budget

theres no reason why he should build a PC with only AMD because AMD is love and AMD is life fanboy crap

900-1500 dollar builds you a nice i5 system... He said quid, meaning GBP.

It's a really weird budget though. What is it OP, 900 or 1500 dollar? ;/

Also, brandbias right off the bat is just plain stupid. Regardless of which brand it is.

slightly over $1k, but very good, wont need to worry over upgrades for quite some time :)

For that price bracket, Intel makes better CPUs for gaming then Intel, but AMD has the price-to-performance upper hand for GPUs.

What two options did I list? Also I said for some price ranges, I didn't say OP's budget specifically. Should read thoroughly before replying. For AAA gaming for example, 860K over G3258 any day.

AMDs last GAMING CPU was Phenom. The FX are not gaming CPUs and do very poorly in gaming, they are meant for video editing and server hosting. This would be amazing for $1k: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3BmMdC Wrong currency sorry. Go with an intel i3 or intel i5 for gaming (Not sure of your budget sorry! I'm not familiar with that currency)

In that case, a LOT of things. The only EVGA PSUs worth buying are the G2 and B2, for some reason because of these two, everyone started worshipping EVGA and all of their PSUs for god knows why, especially the G1 which is mediocre at best but people think are godly. :o

Or, select a cheaper cooler, select a lower capacity SSD, select a cheaper case, swap to a cheaper PSU(less needed for Nvidia GPU's), and up the GPU to a GTX-980:

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£89.99 @ Novatech)
Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£45.99 @ Amazon UK)

There's really no point in going for an AMD CPU, I mean the price difference does not weigh out the performance lost. But if you insist:

A bit overkill for gaming, OCing a 4690K won't make as big of a difference in games as opposed to getting a cheaper cooler and putting that money towards more powerful graphics.

Nowadays, it's silly to go AMD as they simply aren't competitive with Quad cores from Intel downright creaming them in all loads.  The only Fast AMD is a super Overclocked chip at 220W TDP with a 4.7Ghz clock.

It's slower than an i7.

Choose from here for something to fit your range:  It goes from $130-$1500 and ought to cover you.  At $600 I fit a GTX 960 and a i5.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Weak1ings/saved/

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

That's with one card, suffering from diminishing returns as the framerate got higher.

He'll still be able to get 4.0-4.4ghz with a CM Hyper 212 Evo. An AIO is just a bit better at cooling... and in the end, preferential.

So I agree with you, for once... I'd opt for a CM Hyper 212 Evo and a better GPU like the 980.
