Project Boomer Build Log

jogle007

Hello all!  I've started work on a new rig and I'm starting this thread to document my work and progress.  Once I get a hold of a Digital SLR I'll snap a few pics of the parts I've received to date and share them here.  My current list of parts is below.  I'm still waiting on several of the parts to arrive, but I will have all the core components by 2/10.  Unfortunately I'll be sitting on my hands for a while because I ordered my CaseLabs case on 1/30 and I don't expect to get it until the end of February or the beginning of March.  From what I've seen about their cases though, they are worth the wait.

HUGE TIP FOR ANYONE STARTING A BUILD WITH CASELABS CASE!! - Wait until you get your case before you order the parts for your build.  The only exception would be if the part you want is literally half off the normal price.  Since I've ordered the case and I'm just waiting for it to arrive several of the components I have ordered have dropped in price.  I know that parts will drop in price over time, and I bought very high end items, but there was no need to get them so early and sit on them when I could have ordered them the moment I knew the case was on the way and timed a better arrival, as well as saved a few bucks in the process.  Take it or leave it for what it is worth...  : )

I also ordered a 27" DP2710 from South Korea to see how the quality is.  If I have a good experience I plan to run 3 27" monitors on this rig.

Finished PC - Boomer Sooner!!

Question... what exactly will you be doing with this build?

If you're just gaming, I can promise you spent way too much for a 1440p single monitor rig.

The projects never end in my line of work.

No, as I stated I will be getting at least two more 27" monitors, just didn't want to order 3 without knowing what the quality is like.  While I do plan to game with this build I will like do some light video editing as well as photo editing.  Even more so though, I'm kind of doing the build as a hobby.  I've never built a system with water cooling integrated, much less a custom loop, and I'm doing it as much for the experience as the end product.  Sure, could have got the experience for less money, but oh well...  : )

That was going to be my comment, you could've saved a lot of money, and still had a killer watercooled build.

I think it stems from the tight budgets I've always had in the past when building my systems.  I didn't need to stick to one this time so I went extreme on most of the components... : /

Awesome build. Not sure why every thinks ever build has to be the best bang for the buck. You had the money and this is what you wanted to do with it. I feel ya. Work hard to finally have the kind of money to build what you want and it feels good to be able to do it. Haters gonna hate.

I completed the open air testing of the system components before putting on the water blocks.  The images of the open air test and the initial water cooling parts are included in the gallery here.  As soon as I have some time I'll post pictures of the parts with the water blocks installed.

Thank you DEFYANTonE!  I saw that you have an NZXT S340 case for your current build, which is also what I am using too.  It is a great case and has some awesome cable management capabilities.
