I would wait until Broadwell laptops come out. I can only dream of a i7 5710HQ (Or the Broadwell 4710HQ Equivalent) paired with a GTX 970M laptop.

I use a 1 year old G750JW with a 765m and 16gb of ram, and I can dump almost any game on an external monitor while using itunes, chrome, etc on the laptop screen with no issues. Even Bioshock infinite runs like that up to high. For ultra I only output to the one monitor. But it does it! Any of the newer ones should be even better.

My work rig I have: Visual Studio, 3DSMax, Maya, CS6 Master Collection, UE4 (Surprisingly powerful for modeling out environments for planning), CryEngine, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Reason, and about 500 other programs, many plugins and an ungodly amount of scratch data. You'd be amazed how quick those resources can be filled though, especially when you work with multiple apps open at once.

That G751 will run pretty much anything at 1080p beautifully.*

 

My rig is built for me, I don't recommend anyone going out and building one of mine unless they need the utmost in performance across all facets of workflow. I do have to get pictures one day when I take it out of the rack at work. It is about 110 lbs all included.

 

That being said, Linus... I challenge you a build guide to match!

 

*Notice I said Pretty much. I'd say a good 85-90% of games. Not Watch_Dogs. Ubisoft hates us.

For about $1500? Probably the P17xSM-A from Clevo. Socketed CPU and GPU, 230W brick and fairly customizable, but you won't get much beyond stock configs at that price.

 

The Asus G750JM is nowhere NEAR being the best at that price. It only has an 860M and a 4700HQ.

The Asus G751JT is a better machine, but seeing as how all the parts are soldered, it is worse than a socketed machine like the P17xSM-A line.

Sadly the full-fledged Broadwell chips aren't going to be out until at least Q3.
