Just decided to join Folding@home

Just started this, and will let it run overnight and check on its progress. I put as many fans in it as I could find and temps seem to be kept well under concerning temperatures. It is hard to tell, but this machine is running duel hd 7950's and an i5 2500 at 3.8ghz. This is my everyday gaming computer.

From the picture it looks like you're only getting 38% cpu usage? Mine is usually pinged at 100%. An upload to imgur might help picture clarity!

Folding won't run you GPU's nearly as hot as most games will, but cooling is always good.

The 38% cpu load on full setting is a little weird.... Do you have all your threads being utilized? The PPD seem really low... And your total PPD seems unbelievably low... Has anything changed since you started?

That low PPD normal, the projects are taking a while and will need some time to stabilize.

CPU usage is ok as well. Only using 2 cores.

Folding brought both gpus up to 85, and so do games. I decided I do not want to run it this hot overnight so I wanted better cooling. I have changed my username to my normal username instead of "luke"

Wait till your GPU slots hit 3% and you'll get a better picture of what your rig will do, also are your clocks at on your GPU's?

Also your GPU's being sandwiched so close together isn't helping temps.

imgur not working...

So lets try a much slower host, me!

This is an updated screenshot after running it for a day. My mom thought I left the heater on in the office. the maximum temperature I ever saw is 65 degrees, which is pretty good considering the... less than ideal cooling.

you could try manually setting the CPU slot core usage to 3, and then the last core should focus solely on the GPU's. I would try manually setting the CPU slot to 2 and 3, and seeing how the performance is for each. Let me know if you need help with that!

Ok. I will not be near the computer for another 4 1/2 hours at the time of posting this. I will post results after i try this.

looks like you have two gpu's, some gpu wu's need

some cpu power to run properly. So that is likely

why you have low cpu usage. It looks like you have

2 threads dedicated to the gpu's and 2 to spare for

the cpu slot. That is pretty much default settings in

the folding client, dedicating a thread to a gpu.

You could try manually bumping it up to 3, but if you

are folding on the cpu with 3 ouf of 4 threads, at the

same time as folding on your gpu's. You might see

that the gpu's are getting starved and held back by

the lack of cpu resources.

actually, now I need help just getting the damn PC to work. The display driver and I have never been a friend once I upgraded to duel cards, once folding@home starts the gpu's, the display driver crashes and restarts, but I still cant get the client to use them, and a reboot doesnt help. games often do the same thing, and my windows 7 has the same effect.

I might suggest disabling any SLI settings you have, and just powering your monitor off of one card. F@H should recognize the other GPU and fold on that one as well. Also, it might be better to just fold on your GPU's and save all your CPU to help the GPU's.

Yeah, never had any experience with SLI/Crossfire, but it I think if you disabled the crossfire, your computer would use just one card to power your monitors, and leave the other one untouched, and generally individual cards are more stable.

Hmmm... You could always try using no OC on CPU and see if it's stable. That could actually be the issue, and you might not notice it otherwise because F@H really pushed your rig to its max.

Not aside from arbitrary points and knowing the fact that you are participating in a cool collective effort.

What that is worth is up to you.

I am still not sure what is with the boot up problems I had yesterday though. no video after turning on. I took out one gpu and set the cpu to stock, because I just got a 3d printer and this thing needs to be stable. I dont want it to crash in the middle of a print.
