FX-6300 or Intel i3 4150?

Hey Guys, I'm going to get a budget gaming pc, but I'm not sure which cpu to get, I know the i3 is better in single threaded performance but I don't know that that means, I'm mostly going to game on the cpu And I'm not going to oc. Please Help

Thanks in Advance.

If purely gaming, 4150; if rendering and gaming, then a 6300

very nice choice. Definatly go with the 6300. Even though the i3 might have better single threaded performance (this means that programs that only use 1 CPU core will perform better), games will only become more optimized for more cores in the future

the 6300 is a bit old, but it's still a very capable CPU.

also, i know you said you weren't going to do much overclocking, but with the 6300 you do have the option if you change your mind in the future

Will the FX-6300 is unlocked if you're into overlocking.

Thank You, cause a friend of mine told me the i3 is still better, but I'm really not sure

And do u know a good budget micro atx mobo to go with the fx-6300?

You will get similar performance gaming very minor FPS difference. If you intend to do any rendering the 6300 would be better because of the extra cores.

Not sure if you had a chance to watch the Holiday Buyer's guide that Linus made. He goes through a few systems and the fx 6300 is one of the CPUs that he still recommends because intel doesn't have anything in that price range that overclocks.

Here is a link to the video if you are interested

there arent that many good mATX boards for the fx6300. you could probably get one, but do you NEED mATX? standatd ATX would most likely be a batter choice

Some people told me that the fx-6300 is just and old cpu that doesn't compete with the i3

The reason they complain are:

1. intel fanboys = amd haters

2. There will be no newer AM3+ CPUs, so in the future if you want more power, only choice is to upgrade to 8 core FX unless you upgrade the motherboard as well. If you get the i3 with a H97/Z97 board, you can upgrade to Broadwell i5/i7 later on if you want more power and keep the same mobo

Thank You, cause a friend of mine told me the i3 is still better, but I'm really not sure

Again, Intel fanboys.

in that case, i'd reccomend using the FM2 platform. the am3+ matx boards really suck, but there are some great FM2 matx boards. if you use the fm2, you'll need to pick a different CPU

The Gigabyte one isn't that bad actually, and with FM2+ the maximum you'll get is the quad-core 860K.

Take a look the "bottleneck" doesn't exist unless you using over 770/7970 ect..

Again, this is between a locked i3, and an FX on an mATX board. If you'd use your head, you'd realize that the overclocking factor doesn't exist.
