I need a good gaming headset in the $150 range

Any sort of open style headset it going to be better for gaming. Your Beats have a pretty OK sound signature for gaming but the problem is that they're closed rather than open.

Some Sennheiser open headphones of your choice and a modmic will be great but your Beats won't be the end of the world.

Title Says it all :D

Don't buy gaming headsets if they are not absolutely necessary. A nice headphone with a mic strapped to it would be a much better investment imo.

The HyperX Cloud is only 60 dollars right now on Amazon. Mic is so-so, but the actual headphone part is solid, I have the headphones those are based off of without all the HyperX branding.

I was told that I should buy a pair of sennheisers and put on a mod mic. I have a pair of Beats would it be just as good to put the mod mic on the beats? Or should I get a new pair of sennheisers?

Try it out with the beats first. See if you like it. Then try out a pair of Senns. I have never heard people using Beats for gaming though. :D

HD 558s would be a great choice for your budget.
