Kim Dotcom’s once lavish lifestyle is but a distant memory. During a recent teleconference at London’s unBound Digital event, the Megaupload founderrevealed that his legal team recently resigned because he ran out of money. Dotcom said he spent $10 million defending himself and without lawyers, he is defenseless.

$10 million in such a short time (I don't actually remember when it all started though), but I'm sure he has more than enough money to pay for lawyers.  Did his assets get frozen?  And if so how did he pay the first $10 million anyway?

i think all his assets were frozen yes. and he is only barely getting some of them back but it isnt enough to cover the legal bills. i have to agree that 10 million in legal fees really seems extreme

Didn't know they were still hunting him all these years. It must suck going to court date to court date until you run dry. No one wants to be in that situation, trapped in a cycle.

Edit: autocorrect really messed this up. Fixed

Why? 10 million dollars is actually exactly what I expected in this time span. People really don't know how much lawyers like that charge for certain clients do they lol...

So because they couldn't find him guilty of the crime they wanted to, they just drag it out until he can't afford a lawyer then they'll move in with the small charges they can get him on and say "see, we told you he was guilty"

Kinda like AL Capone getting 25 years for tax evasion.

I find it silly that the US is fighting for extradition even when Dotcom has never set foot on US soil (or so Logan says),.

I thought his assets and "proceeds of crime" from megaupload.com were frozen.

But he started making income again from his new business, mega.co.nz which has nothing to do with the charges his accused of.
