Blue Yeti Humming In The Background

HowToGaming

I presume most people with a Blue Yeti knows what I am talking about, and If not I cannot show an example as I cannot reach my microphone right now. Long story short, from what I have heard, using a self powered USB hub can resolve this issue, but I'm not 100% sure if this is correct. Can someone confirm that this is a valid solution? It seems logical to use a self powered USB hub, but I don't want to invest the money into it without being sure of it resolving the issue.

Slightly off topic. OP means the Microphone call Blue Yeti. Not the other Yeti, aka, Sasquatch, aka BigFoot, aka Big hairy monster

On topic, self power USB as in those that needs a separate power adapter?

These kind of Self Powered USB Hubs:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NEWLink-Port-Self-Powered-N14320/dp/B001GXR6XO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416956581&sr=8-2&keywords=self+powered+usb

Yes, they need a separate adapter. It makes sense that it would work, since the microphone is getting more power :/

The microphone isn't getting more power since the maximum voltage a USB will provide is just 5v. With the power adapter, what you're getting is dedicated power to your mic, that is only if you just plug in your mic and nothing else.

Some boards will have dedicated 5v controller just for the USB like the Asus Maximum VII Hero or Rampage V Extreme. The hub is cheap so if it doesn't work return it or use it for somthing else, some say it fixes their problems and some say it didn't.

Try other USB ports on your PC or try with another computer and see if you still have the same issue. One other method is to grab  a PCIe USB card with external power. That way you can get dedicated power from your PSU.

@HowToGaming :

Have you tried a different USB cable? Maybe one with a ferrite bead if it didn't come with one - or maybe yours is defective. I have a snowball - and there is no discernible noise it picks up on its own - I know it's a different product altogether - but their entry level product shouldn't outperform their mid level. If this is a known fault - I'd contact blue and demand a replacement. They advertise it as a professional microphone - their QA department should be on top of this.

I always guarantee that no more than 50% of what I say is useful.

Make sure windows doesn't crank up the volume. Had that problem with my snowball too, turning down that volume for it worked just fine.
