How many hertz does hdmi transfer?

How many hertz does hdmi transfer on a monitor thats resolution 1280x1024p monitor.  The monitor it 75Hz and I hear a lot that it can do 60Hz on 1080p but what about 1280x1024p?

It'll be fine, the bandwidth of HDMI is more than enough to have a 1280x1024 monitor running at 75Hz.

i think its 240hz

its not about hertz, its about bandwidth, and 1280x1024 is like nothing compared to 1920*1080, HDMI probably has the bandwidth for 240hz @ 1280*1024

1920x1080x60 = 124.4 Million pixels per second

124.4M/(1280x1024) = 95

 

If it has enough bandwidth for at least 60Hz at 1080p, it has enough for at least 95Hz at 1280x1024

Unfortunately that's not how it works.

Probably 1000 Hz, if your resolution is 1x1 pixels, and 2 colors (black and white, no gray)

Lower the resolution, lower the color count, the more refresh rate you can go. It's a balance.

That is why at 4K, HDMI can only go at 8-bit per channel colors (~16.7 million colors), but only 30Hz (at least until HDMI 2.0 comes out on products).

Why it's a balance? Bandwidth is the answer. You can do any combination you want, as long as it is at or under the max bandwidth of the cable, it will work.

Now, you must keep in mind that the connector that you are using, whether be DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort, the settings you have can be under their bandwidth, but the monitor refuses to work, or work correctly. In such case, the limitation is the circuitry inside the monitor. Usually, if you have a fancy monitor, with color processor, it is most likely that any OC won't work, or not get you far.

Thank you that really helps and shows i barely hit a 1/3 of the capacity of bandwidth on the cable  :D

I don't know the validity on it, so I was hoping someone would confirm it before someone runs off with it and blows something up.

I bought  cble to try it and it can run at 120 Hz for sure.  Im currently at 75hz.
