Cabinet cooling, need help

flibberdipper

So I'm probably gonna end up tucking my computer in my cabinet (like what Linus did with his HTPC), but I have a different situation. Mine is more open, but it still traps heat like no tomorrow. Here are the dimensions (going off the usable space, rounded to the nearest centimeter for you other folks):

  • 28 3/4" (73cm) wide
  • 21 1/4" (54cm) tall
  • 19" (48cm) deep

So, for the part I am uncertain about: where should I put the fans, and what size fans should I get (keeping it almost silent is my #1 priority). Crappy pic of the cabinet below, with my 300r where it would go. The cabinet is right against my dresser and the back wall, and the front fans on my 300r are intakes and the top two are exhausts.

2 Up on the top since the heat is going up and 2 and the bottom and 2 on the sides and 1 rear in the same direction that the cooler exhaust air so the additional fan can take the hot air out of the cabinet

upper ones>exhaust

bottom>intake

side>intake

Your best bet is probably the front of the cabinet and leave your desktop's sidepanel open

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I'd go with GentleTyphoons 800 RPM model, they're nearly silent and you would be able to run them at 100% all the time thus eliminating the need for PWM/resistors.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Just my Dell which I fold with some times. It won't be there when I get my new computer going. Ghetto folding FTW.

I goofed on the conversion, didn't I? :P

Whoops, forgot to mention I can't put them in the roof of that part of the cabinet, since it's a multi-level deal.

Side exhaust of the case?

BTW, there is about an inch or just under that between the side of the cabinet and the dresser.

I'm not certain but I think the lower rpms the lower the noise (meaning bigger is better/moves more air at lower rpms) and don't use a filter, as it creates resistance, which will produce noise aswell. Just drill a hole in the top side of the thing and put some intake fans in front or do it the other way for negative pressure. Since hot air rises, the higher the exhaust, the better.

EDIT: Goes for intake aswell, the lower the better. Ugh, and aim the intake exhaust vs. the case's intake exhaust. Other will create turbulence which will produce noise aswell, though I don't think it matters much.

Just looked at your edit (), and the GT's are way out of my price range. I really don't want to spend more than $10 a fan if I have to.

Get some of these http://www.amazon.com/BitFenix-Spectre-200mm-BFF-SCF-20020KK-RP-Black/dp/B006VKAOOU/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1408743418&sr=8-8&keywords=200mm+fan two dollars over but should be quiet. Then drill holes in the wood and dont use dust filters as there should be dust filters on the case and maybe put some fans on the side window of the case for even more airflow.

Didn't they make Spectre Pro LED fans in that size? Cuz if there are any white LED ones... I'd consider dropping more on those.

I dont know if its just the fan but my corsair led fan 140mm is sooooo loud. It dwarfs my reference 760 let alone my bitfenix fans that came with the case.(Which are much quiter) so im never buying a corsair fan or led fan. Bitfenix FTW

Spectre Pro's are Bitfenix silly. Only thing I will EVER buy from BitFenix are fans. LED strip started the death of my motherboard and soldered itself to my case.

I should have noticed they were bad sooner (they were really hot), but meh. Anyways, I'm down to these two (Newegg is the cheapest). I don't care that they're twice as expensive as I would like, I'll just buy them one at a time.
