There is optimisation software that Samsung provide for the SSD, download it off their site, it automatically enables/disables things in windows to give your SSD the best health and performance

what does defragging actually do to SSD's i just head to not do it but never actually questioned why

(I think)

Because SSDs write data randomly to cells in the SSD that only the controller knows where

so it basically just corrups everything because i tries to move data in order?

Trimming would be a good idea, if you are on WIndows 8 than it's already there but if on Windows 7 or below use Samsung's software for their SSDs.

Trimming is done on the fly from Windows7 onwards, so no need to do it manually.

Defragmenting an SSD isn't a good idea. With that said windows 7 and 8 users do not have to worry about it. Windows 7/8 detects that it is an SSD and changes defeat to optimisation. Vista users do have to disable defrag.

I found that the www.thessdreview.comm has good optimisation guides for each common version of windows.

I guess it was an update or something, I only ran old non-updated Windows 7 when I upgraded to a SSD because I was testing a boot time issue.

Yes, Samsung Magician is the software. Open it up and go into the Optimization section. There are different levels you can choose (Max performance, max stability, etc - this is paraphrasing, FYI, since I don't recall what the options are actually called off the top of my head). Though honestly most of the different settings are fairly minor in the difference they'll make. Windows 7 will by default already be pretty good.

Nope, TRIM is with Win7 from day 1.
