Is root worth it if I an not installing a custom Rom?

otobot9

Hey guys so I was wondering what your peoples opinions on rooting if you don't plan on installing a different Rom. For example I don't mind touchwiz that much on my note 3 and plus I want to use the pen and such but still want to use apps that need rooting. I don't know if it is worth ridding of the warranty on an eight hundred dollar device. What do you guys think? Also do you think there will be a root on 4.4 that doesn't trip knox so I don't have to worry?

Well, some programs may have to have your phone rooted in order to function. Avast Mobile Security, for example, needs your phone to be rooted in order to scan it and protect it from viruses.

That was my point I was wondering if you guys that that alone was worth getting rid of the warranty

Rooting is only worth it if you do two things:

1) Understand what it is you're actually doing..

2) Will actually use the unlocked power of your device

Just as to everything in the world, there are PROS and CONS to it.

PROS:

- Your phone is truly unlocked, and you can basically do everything

- You have access to a lot of what you would find very interesting, such as settings modifications.

CONS:

- Your warranty is void, is this important to you?

- You can mess it up if you don't know what you're doing

- Your phone might not function how it used to, or even how you would like it to function.

Whaaa?? I didn't even know rooting voids warranty. How would they check it anyway when it goes for service?

which is plain ass stupid because no "virus" could possibly attack you unless you are rooted/the virus roots your phone.

Root access is great if you know what you are doing, there are many apps like greenify & titanium backup which are really useful. BTW there are touchwiz based custom ROM's out there you know, they are typically de-bloated and don't have a theme straight out of 2006 ;).

I personally think the coolest note 3 rom is foxhound, but there are many others you can go and check out.

Would these roms allow me to keep. Using my s pen?

because of the fact that it is touchwiz based, yes.

Hmm may then be worth it.

just take a gander at my guide in my sig so you know what you are doing.

here's a good guide on how to root the note 3 without voiding warranty. You can only flash samsung based firmwares/ROMs using this technique.

I feel the things like ad away and lmt are really needed to me so rooting is very important. It actually depends on what u want tbh.

you can root most phones without a warranty. I personally only use my phone rooted, because I want to be able to mess with things and delete logs and stuff on the OS partition. I also have adaway that need root, or some SD cleaners that benefit from root, but also simply because I don't want to feel restricted and root makes it feel like I'm using a PC on which I can do whatever I want.

I personally do not think it is worth it. I am yet to see anything anybody has done modding/rooting a high end phone that really makes much difference in the long run.

What is it you want to do that you can't? Can you live without it and not notice? if so, I wouldnt bother

I rooted my phone this week, really worth it imo. Then I installed Cyanogenmod 11 and was amazed at all its features it has. Then I switched to ART and the battery lasts a lot longer WHICH IS GREAT FOR A NEXUS 5.

So yes it is worth it imo.

Nmm.  It depends if you will make use of it or not.

Just use the right software and you're fine,as long as its done right and you can undo it, why not ;s

I'm sure there's some guides on youtube or something.

You can install some really handy apps that need you to be rooted, such as adblock :D considering how much google advertises on its own operating system I'd say it's a good enough reason.
