Price of GTX 980

Go to solution Solved by MattGameDev,

Just went and watch a video. GTX 980 gives you 5-7 more FPS than GTX 970

I've been in the same boat as you actually. Not sure whether to go 980 or 970. Check my forum thread here as people have some input that may make up your mind.

Personally, i think i'm going with the 970 and maybe upgrade to a second one later down the road (based on my thread votes)

Hi!

I'm buying a new computer in the end of june and I am interested if the prices of GTX 980 will drop till then. I am struggling if I shoud buy GTX 970 and after a year buy another one, or just wait a bit for prices to lower and buy GTX 980.

Thanks!

Perhaps when the 980ti comes out the price will go down for it and the 970.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

There is no evidence for a 980ti.

I had thought on the WAN show this past Friday they mentioned the 980Ti was actually set to come out in the next few weeks, no?

"Perhaps when it comes out" If it does ever happen, I don't work for nvidia I don't have a clue.

Unless you're doing insane stuff on the PC for gaming, the 970 should run @ 60FPS 1080p on ultra.  That should be enough.  What are you going to use it for?

I don't always use Vessel.... but when I do, it's because of Scrapyard Wars.

Till there is an official anouncement from nvidia they are all rumors.

I guess I'd just say OP should wait till Computex or something and see if an announcement comes. Supposedly an NVIDIA employee posted saying it was coming in June, but who really knows I guess.

@Caloon, I just picked up a 980 yesterday, if you also decide to get one now, and the Ti comes out in a month and the prices drop, we can be in the buyers remorse club together.

If it's a single 980 vs dual 970s (one now and another later), personally I'd go for the 980, stronger single card performance.

Corsair has it listed it on their PSU compatibility list...

I'll use my computer for gaming (GTA V, Minecraft w/ shaders, COD4) and editing and animating 1080p, but in the future maybe in a year or so I'm going into 4K editing and animating.

I don't think that my budget will allow me to buy 980 now (645€ in GER), therefore I'm leaning towards 2 970s...

We don't know, but it's unlikely. You can buy two 970s for close to the same price.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

A 980 doesn't make sense price wise in any scenario... Assuming you care about your money.
