2080 Ti

Is nVidia gonna bank on the 2080 GTX like they did with 1080 and mlik it for two and a half years.  Because the 1080 came out couple years ago and now just now the successor comes out.  So is the same thing going to happen with the 2080 RTX where they dont put out a GPU for 2 years or soo.  This is a important question.  Some people don't mind but some who want to spend 1400 dollars on a RTX 2080 Ti don't wanna get screwed over by a 3080 Ti in one years time ?

 

My apologies admins and gurus for naming the thread 3080 Ti instead of 2080 TI makes more sense.

Yes your right, but my thing is, is nvidia going once a year new gen or once every 2 years or so like the 10xx series.  I want to know if its 2 years or so I will want to get the 2080 GTX but if their releasing something in October of 2019 then I wont get the 1080 ,, you feel me ....

This isn't really worth much discussion TBH, the RTX 2080 Ti just released and Nvidia's Pascall cards were on market for like 2 years mainly thanks to AMD's lack of competition in the high-end consumer GPU space. So talking about the next launch when RTX just launched does not warrant any consideration at this point. I think that Nvidia will launch new GPU's when they actually get more competition, if not we are many many years from a new architecture launch.

And unfortunately, nobody has the all seeing crystal ball, Linus dropped it last year, so we don't know. I would say go with what will serve you well for a while to come and ignore the "next big thing" that might be around the corner. Maybe we'll get a hit once Navi from AMD drops but until then it's up in the air.

Navi 7nm is coming next year already and if it is a success nVidia will have to hurry their own 7nm chips making the RTX 2080 Ti have a shorter life as the fastest gaming GPU.

We all know that concept. 

 

Thats why we the best we can at predicting the future by looking at the rumor and leaks to give our self some false idea that the decision to either wait or to buy now is justified. Thats all this guy wants to do as well as me. So my point is saying what u did doesn't help.

 

It would be better if you said that but add in "Look at the rumor mill along with launch date history of the product, that way you can make a guess that will justify your reasoning in your head."

Turing has been out for roughly two months and we've already got one of these threads. Wow.

 

NVIDIA will milk Turing until one of three things happens:

1. AMD gives them a good reason not to milk Turing anymore.
2. The enterprise environment demands a new generation of Quadro, and whatever's developed there translates nicely and inexpensively (for NVIDIA) into the consumer gaming market.
3. Sales slip because everyone who wants a 20X0 has one, and the newest SKUs are cannibalizing other existing products (like the 1070 Ti did to the 1070 and 1080).

Your best hope for something new within the next couple of years is AMD stepping up their game. Regardless, if you have expectations that will be met by the 2080 Ti and you've got the cash for it, buy the 2080 Ti. There will probably be a Titan T at some point that legitimately beats the 2080 Ti, but that's not a sure thing given that the 2080 Ti was a launch product instead of a later addition. "Wait for 3080" is not the attitude to have right now if you need the highest of the high-end GPUs.

Like I said this false confirmation isn't based on any fact let it be the name or not. All it exists to do is to justify someones reasoning to "future proof" with a purchase.

Thanks boss, you said it will.  From what I read from you their not going to release a 3080 in October 2019 rather in 2020 or 2021.  sweet, then 2080 is on my list for purchase.

Yeah, I'd get a 2080 now, no use in waiting cause we could be waiting a while for a new launch. 

 

7nm support is launching on AMD CPU's, not much talk on their GPU side of things yet. So waiting for an inevitable upgrade does not make a lot of sense. It may happen in 1 year it may happen in 3, my guess is we may not see anything in 2 years IF AMD DOES NOT release something competitive with the Nvidia high-end GPU's. But IF THEY DO then we may see something from Nvidia sooner. You are asking me to put a timeline on releases we do not know about. So if you want someone here to tell you that a '3080' is not going to launch until 2020 or 2021 then you have misunderstood what I stated, because no one on this forum has that information. Nvidia themselves probably don't have that information.

Thanks big time man, I totally understand what your saying.  Also honestly do we even need a more powerful card then a 2080 Ti for the next many years to come.  Honestly the next upgrade for a 2080 Ti owner should be when the games and I mean all games are written in hardcore ray tracing not a project or expirement like the video they should with Battlefield.  But actual games take it in and welcome the technology.  Treat it as tho it was Phsyx  ,,, how many games support that and look how long its been out for ?  Barely any game supports it.  So ya a heavy ray traced game in 2021 or 2022 or beyond the 3080 will be second generation ray tracing support, but what game will integrate it properly.  Who knows......nVidia got happy release date time of the 2080 all they could do is put out a cheesy ray tracing video.  So ya if you want ray tracing get a 2080 Ti but good luck in finding a game that uses it.  If you want 4k resolution then 1080 Ti will suffice, however the 2080 Ti will be faster of course, but hardly noticeable to the human eye. Todays most dominant engines are AutoDesk and Beast and Unreal Engine which Fortnite uses.  It is 60fps on ultra high settings and you absolutely do NOT need a 2080 to run that engine or run Q

I'm pretty happy with the cards I'd gotten, my 2x VEGA 64 in CF mode should last me a while, I'm waiting for 7nm die shrink for VEGA before I'd consider upgrading my cards. While there's a 7nm VEGA class card out now (I believe), it's only for those professional card scenario, not gaming which isn't till late next year I think.

I personally plan on sticking with 4k/98hz for 2-3 years.
