What is better for cs?

I am trying to do a build and I can't figure out what cpu to go with. Right now I have a i5 7400 locked at 3GHz and a gtx 1060 3gb. My planned build is to either go with a ryzen 7 2700x with a rtx 2080 or a intel i7 8700k with a rtx 2080. Any suggestions?

Doesn’t matter. Counter Strike is one of the easiest games to run ever. My 750 Ti can run it at 3440x1440 medium settings and I get ~50fps. So you’ll get like 300 at 4k. If there are any other games you play or any rendering/editing/3D modeling and such that would be a better basis to give you advice on. If all you play is CS, I would spend less money.

2700 + good air cooler > 2700X stock as you can OC 2700 to 2700X levels easily.

as for 8700k, If you want to spend another 150-200$, i guess. I would go 2700 + 50$ air cooler + nice 2080 over 8700k + 50$ air cooler + cheapest 2080.

Even my 1600 + 480 can run CS:GO 1080p at about 200 fps average whilst streaming at 1080p 60-fps

I would go for the 2700/2700X. More threads will mean less performance hit while streaming. The 8700K will do just as good though so it’s really whatever you want and have the budget for

I would drop the 2080 for a used 1080 Ti as they have the same performance. If you can, buy an EVGA Kingpin 1080ti, but an FTW3 is also a great options, or really they all are but these have the best overclocking capability.

If you don't have a budget why not a top of the line EVGA 2080 Ti? Also if you go with a 8700k and you have no money try delidding it.

I heard delidding voids warranty but can make 5GHz a breeze on the 8700k

That would be a great option, or you can wait for the 9900k/9700k and delid and liquid metal those. Liquid metal will allow higher overclocks and those have more cores and the 9900k has more threads but it is pricy.

Do not ask on this forum for CPU/GPU recommendation. No matter if you want computer for playing Solitaire or using Notepad only, everyone recommends i7-8700K and 1080Ti/2080Ti.

I guess you didn’t read my post...

 

That said I wouldn’t both with anything mentioned above lol. Just get a 2700 and a 1080. Even if you’re just playing at 1080p, then you could get like a 1060 or 580, and you’ll still get a couple hundred FPS in CS. But like I said, you can get pretty much anything and it’ll be fine.

I mean of course we are! If you have no budget of course we're going to recommend the best of the best! If someone has a budget then we can do a good recommendation.

But if someone just want to know "what CPU do you recommend" everyone asks "for what? give us more details". And then answer is again the same - buy i7-8700k.

So maybe this whole section of forum should be closed and big image should be display instead - "always buy i7-8700k or Threadripper, no matter what".

Definitely go with Ryzen since you'll be streaming. If your only focus is to stream CSGO, you can do that with a MUCH cheaper rig. The RTX 2080 won't even turn it's fans on on CSGO depending on the model, lol. And for streaming, Ryzen is the way to go, a R5 2600(x) would probably do. As I said, if that's your only focus, this rig will be a huge waste of money, but if you want to play everything maxed out, sure, go with the 2700x and RTX 2080, and if you can, the RTX 2080 Ti is the best performer by quite a margin, but it's price is terrible, so only go for it if you really have money to burn.

@H2O_  The 2700X won't get as many frames as the 8700K.  With that said it will stream without much effort whereas the 8700K will need some tweaking.  But if you wanna play on something like a 240Hz monitor then I would say go with the 8700K.  Other than that the 2700X will produce enough frames to be happy with.
