Build upgrade 6600k to 9th gen?

Heya,

Soo I'm experiencing some maxing out and stuttering on my 6600k (in fortnite when it hits 100% usage fps drops from 120 to 70-80 which results in stuttering ((update:lowering target to 60fps makes a massive difference, but gta v and bf1 still stutter and arma3 is unplayable))), so I'm thinking about upgrading. My budget is around 800bgn (roughly 400 euro, a bit less), which is enough for a 9600k and a z370 mobo. Is it worth it and for the price is the 9600k the best choice?

Nah, more like Ryzen 5 6core. Note that in order to overclock a 9600k (or any Intel 6 core CPU) you need a much better cooler than the Hyper 212 so that's extra expense. Also from what mobo you picked for the 6600k I don't think you picked an adequate Z370 board, even though you didnt mention it.

I believe the 8700k outperforms the 9600k, though I could be wrong. 

 

Edit: Userbenchmark shows the 8700k does outperform it, but not by too large of a margin.

Grab the 8700k if you can, if it's too costly in your area than the 9600k should be good.

Intel is way overpriced in most of Europe. Ryzen 7 2700x costs about the same and is a better CPU overall.

Do you think that the mobo I picked for my 6600k is shitty? Because if yes, I would completely agree :d. First build mistake I guess, skimping on a motherboard is stupid evidently.

The Z370 boards I'm currently looking at are the Aorus gaming k3 from gigabyte and an Msi tomahawk, I think these would be good? im a moron when we talk about motherboards, so a bit help in this area would be appreciated. Also yes, I would probably upgrade to a dark rock pro 4/ nh15s at some point

Grab the 8700k if you can, if it's too costly in your area than the 9600k should be good. 

Unfortunately the 8700k is twice the money compared to a 9600k, so if I do not import it it's out of the question lol

Well, the 2700x is more expensive than the 9600k and i do not know anything about amd (yes, might call me an intel fanboy because i've used them forever, but i'm okay with switching if it's worth it), how's the performance like?

Seeing as you are also from bulgaria, you probably know that here the 2700x is more expensive, but is it worth it?

The K3 is even worse, considering how much extra power the 9600k sups compared to the 6600k. The Tomahawk... acceptable I guess? I will never recommend this mobo because I don't think it's strong, but for lower prices there aren't many better options. Even among MSI mid range Z370s like this one, I prefer the M5. I myself would try find Asrock Extreme4 or K6.

Does that 6600k have HT.  Fortnite is a Unreal Engine game.  I was about to say sidegrade but I saw you have a 4/4 unless its 4/8.  Your going from budget to budget, do things right this time and just buy a 8700k it will smoke a 9600k.  Give her a 4.8Ghz OC and your CPU now will not be a bottleneck.

8700k is quite expensive over here. What about the 2700x?

Sure, a Ryzen 7 2700X does not bottleneck a GTX 1070

has been a very long time for desktop i5s to not have hyperthreading

For the 6 core (with overclock) or 8 core at stock (2700x), the MSI B450 boards, aside from the Pro-M2 and Pro-VDH, are good choices. Asus X370 Prime Pro, X470 Prime Pro, Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5 or K7

 

If you use and overclock the 8 core, you'll need something like the X470 Gaming Pro Carbon, X370-F, X470-F, or Asrock Taichi boards.
