Connecting a Mi Box to a USB Blu Ray player

Hi,

I have a Xiaomi Mi Box Android TV (Global version but I live in the US). It has a USB 2.0 type A port and I have a non-smart TV. I was thinking if instead of buying a Blu Ray player, I could just get a USB Blu Ray drive. That would even let me use the drive with my laptop if ever needed. Can I just buy any USB Blu Ray reader from Amazon or do I need to get one with some basic parameters? These are the specs https://www.mi.com/global/mibox.

I'm not so familiar with Android handling media discs, but if you have a spare USB DVD drive, you can try that at least.

 

Or why not just connect your USB BR drive to the laptop, then connect the laptop to your TV thru HDMI?
