Google Pixel 3 / XL faulty display

Varusal

Hey boys and girls,

today I received my Google Pixel 3 and I discovered that the upper half of the display is ping and the lower half of it is yellow.

The weird thing is that I watched and read many review about the Google Pixel 3 / XL and no one is talking about this issue. In fact I read lines like: "There are no such problems with the display like with the Google Pixel 2 / XL."

So I searched for this issue and I found a very good Reddit post:

And I also found a video about this issue:

And this is what it looks like (also linked in the Reddit post). In my case I have the issue which is shown in the middle.

Apparently people bought up to seven phones to get one without any display issues.

Do you have the same issue?

I'm not the only one and people have bought 7 devices and all of them had this issue!

Why would anyone buy 7 devices? Just return the phone to Google. They'll most likely send a free replacement.

Shouldn't be that surprising. They had issues with the first batch of their last phones too. That's why you shouldn't early adopt before you see what they're like.

They likely didn't buy 7, but had it replaced 7 times.

Yeah I'm not sure why Google has such a hard time with displays. It almost seems like the companies they contract put in lower grade panels or something.

It might be because Google are still sort of the new kid on the block and the suppliers don't really see them as a serious phone manufacturer yet? Idk, it's just a theory.

It's mostly the Pixel 3, which has LG displays. The XL is mostly okay due to having Samsung panels.

The Mate20 Pro is also having issues with its LG panel, to the point where Huawei in the UK and Ireland are encouraging people to exchange them

They're not new though. They've been putting out phones for I want to say over a decade.

Wasn't the OP's problem with an XL though?

LG really needs to rethink what it's doing. P-OLED seems to give them a lot of issues.

Yeah, they're not new. But what I was trying to say was that they're fairly new to making their own smartphones. For most of that decade they've been relying on other manufacturers like LG and Huawei for producing their product. New manufacturers like Vivo and OnePlus haven't had these sort of issues because they have a consistent component source. Google's problem is that they aren't really consistent with who they buy their parts from.

I don't think that's it though. Google uses Foxconn. So does Apple. Apple doesn't have such issues.
