You could probably get a higher Athlon, but that whole series is massively outdated. You're better off waiting till you can jump to Ryzen Primary PC: - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8G3tXv (Windows 10 Home) HTPC: - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KdBb4n (Windows 10 Home) Server: Dell Precision T7500 - Dual Xeon X5660's, 44GB ECC DDR3, Dell Nvidia GTX 645 (Windows Server 2019 Standard) *SLI Rig* - i7-920, MSI-X58 Platinum SLI, 12GB DDR3, Dual EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 in SLI - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GHw6vW (Windows 7 Pro) HP DC7900 - Core 2 Duo E8400, 4GB DDR2, Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT (Windows Vista) Compaq Presario 5000 - Pentium 4 1.7Ghz, 1.7GB SDR, PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro (Windows XP x86 Pro) Compaq Presario 8772 - Pentium MMX 200Mhz, 48MB PC66, 6GB Quantum HDD, "8GB" HP SATA SSD adapted to IDE (Windows 98 SE) Asus M32AD - Intel i3-4170, 8GB DDR3, 250GB Seagate 2.5" HDD (converting to SSD soon), EVGA GeForce GTS 250, OEM 350W PSU (Windows 10 Core) *Haswell Tower* - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3vw6vW (Windows 10 Home) *ITX Box* - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/r36s6R (Windows 10 Education) Dell Dimension XPS B800 - Pentium 3 800Mhz, RDRAM In progress projects: *Skylake Tower* - Pentium G4400, Asus H110 *Trash Can* - AMD A4-6300 *GPU Test Bench* *Pfsense router* - Pentium G3220, Asrock H97m Pro A4, 4GB DDR3 Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/988960-what-cpu-should-i-get/#findComment-11910974 Share on other sites
 Posted October 30, 2018 Don't forget that you're going to need a new mobo and RAM, too, so that 110€ isn't going to get you much. I'm assuming your budget is really low, so perhaps consider saving up for a Ryzen 3 2200G-based setup -- it's still quite a bit faster CPU than your current one, pretty cheap and you'll then have a modern mobo you can upgrade the CPU on later on, if you wish. Posted October 30, 2018 get an AM4 based Athlon 200 GE, only $50 for the cpu, with a build in gpu! it is Ryzen at heart, so you'll get the same IPC, only the core count reduced. if you have more money you can just swap it with a better cpu. in the meantime it is the best bang for the buck. Personally, I disagree. IMHO, the Ryzen 3 2200G is the better buy, especially so, if the OP did even mild overclocking. The APU doesn't support overclocking at all. Hand, n. Posted October 30, 2018 with only $110 there's no room for the motherboard. $50 for the cpu, $50 for the motherboard. you still need the ddr4 at least 2x4gb. this enough to blow the athlon 845 the OP original plan. Posted October 30, 2018 You need about 250 for a decent build. So keep saving. If you do come up with 250 then go with some 3000 ram. I did 2666 because it shaved about 15 bucks off. Plus I am fairly confident it can be overclocked to 2800 to 3000 without much effort lol PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TsN7sZ Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TsN7sZ/by_merchant/ CPU: AMD - Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($98.49 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: Biostar - B450MHC Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($61.98 @ Newegg Business) Memory: Patriot - Signature Line 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($64.99 @ Amazon) Total: $225.46 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-10-30 13:19 EDT-0400 Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/988960-what-cpu-should-i-get/#findComment-11911108 Share on other sites
