Your PSU handles the difference.  My HP Pro 6300 has a 320w PSU.  Will support the 1060 6gb (at 100% PSU load lol but its platinum rated)

you could try using a 1050 in it. but you should probebly get a cx450 or something from newegg and a better gpu with it

Be careful on this. A lot of these dells workstations pc's won't take another psu unless you change cases then you will get bios errors every boot. If you want to keep that psu you can use a 1050ti... if you can get another psu to work then you can up it to whatever you can get to fit.

Ultra Small Form Factor with an ATX PSU?  And no 1050 will fit in that (EDIT - thinking about this I may be wrong maybe they do make a narrow one)

 

Best you can do is a GTX 1030 on that thing imho

Sorry it's not the small case. Its the thic one. I'm already putting a PSU in it, but is there any limit on the PCI slot?

Page 11 and down - so you get more acclimated with what you are buying

 

No issue with PCIE x16 slot - it gives 75w

 

Taking a look at it, it should have the DELL 42P49 mobo - ATX plug ins

Im not sure the question tbh, you can use a PCIE connector to add more power to the GPU if needed no problem (if that's what you are asking)

Thanks man, appreciate the help! One last question though, would I be able to mount the mobo in another case? I'm not sure how the standoffs would line up. Just throwing it out there. I got cases laying around too lol.

Yes and standoffs anymore are just screwed in, so you can take standoffs from other cases and put them in the cases you are using and...not all standoffs have to be there (but SHOULD!!! as it keeps the mobo from flexing and touching the metal case and shorting) to install a mobo

The problem might be with the front panel connectors.  This is Dell after all and their motto has always been it's their way or the highway. :(

That takes me back, put 100's of those optiplex machines out of the door over the years, they are bombproof compared to the HP/Lenovo equivalents, I think I've still got Pentium D based one in the garage, I'd put money on it booting if I brought it in and let it warm up for 24hrs first.

Mainly sent them out with quadro cards in, even the mini ones (they sold risers to get a full height card in).

AFAIK the service guys used to swap out the PSU's without any effort on that size machine, and they weren't carrying official dell parts.

If you are supplying most of the GPU wattage over the 6pin molex (which is what it's there for) I can't see an issue. Hell, I even remember getting "graphics performance may suffer" i.e "you forgot to plug the psu in, stupid" messages at boot, I think you'd have to really try to actually break something.
