21:9 60-75hz vs 16:9 144hz Opinions please

Coczilla

Whats your own opinion on picking a "ultrawide 21:9 ratio, 60-75hz refresh rate, 5ms response time" versus a "16:9 ratio, 144hz refresh rate, 1ms response time". Where all the focus for use is competitive twitch based gaming? Which would you pick and why?

Always wanted an ultrawide, extra viewing left and right is a nice bonus. On flipside seeing more fluid with 144hz, seems more hardcore gamer worthy. I'm currently "1080p, 16:9, 65hz". I have never played on a 144hz panel.

I can't afford an ultrawide 144hz monitor... Budget $250 or under. Even ones around $500 have absurd response times like 14ms.

Just having a hard time pulling the trigger on this purchase. Since they both together have what I want for the price I can afford, yet lack for me alone.. So I'm torn between the two options. Looking for a meaningful push towards one or the other.

Basically eye-balling from these two, "$150, LG 25UM58-P 25-Inch 21:9" and "$250, BenQ Zowie XL2411P 24 inch 144Hz". I'll take any other recommendations though.

Thank you for your time.

Well, i would personally choose the 16:9, 144Hz, 1ms monitor. Fasters refresh rate should help a little if you are plying competitive.

I'd also recommend checking some monitors from a store to see how they feel and look.

If you are getting an Ultrawide then grab the 29 inch version of the LG monitor, you will thank me later.

Abother note is that the ultrawide uses an IPS panel for better colours and deeper blacks.

Well that's a rather personal thing and the only thing I can really recommend is try them both out. Not sure how it is where you live but over here if you buy something online you have two weeks to decide whether you want to keep it. My preference would be for the 16:9 144Hz monitor, especially if you play fast passed games like shooters. I think 25" is very small (for an ultra wide) but of course this also depends on how far you sit from the monitor.

I prefer the faster refresh rate. As I play mainly games like LoL for example, Ultrawides don't really help. 16:9 is still mandatory in gaming and YouTube

Depending on sales or used options you can get a 4k 60hz IPS display for around that price. Easily the way to go if you don't go 144hz.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

DOnt get a 25” ultrawide. If you get a 2560x1080 UW get 29”. 3440x1440 looks best at 34” or there about. Honestly though, 2550x1080 isn’t worth anything imo. I’m not a huge fan of my own 3540x1440 monitor anyways

Edit: Especially if all you play is twitch FPS games, I don’t know why you’re even considering anything under 144Hz. I md recommend you also take a look at the Asus VG248QE, that’s my 1080p 144hz monitor of choice. Most pros don’t even play CSGO at 16:9, they play at 4:3 or 5:4. Overwatch is a different story obviously

Appreciate all opinions. I thank you all.

Made my decision much easier. I am going with a 24-27inch, 144+hz, 1ms, 1080p. Seems I can do that now under 200 with the Acer line. Going to just wait till black friday/cyber monday deals and buy one.

Thanks all.
