Budget build for friend

Another friend came to me for planning on a budget build since he doesn't know really anything about computers. He wants to do some light PC gaming but mostly just browsing, etc. I figured the r5 2400 or R3 2200 would suit his pretty well but he wanted to spend the money he has, which is ~$800 USD. He didn't really tell me what games he wants to play since he's never had a good PC for games. He plays mostly on is Xbox still so should I just change this to a r5 2400 and take out the card?

I'd let him pick out the case, he has to look at it for years.

 

When you say light gaming, light enough for the 2400G, with the ability to add a solid GPU later if he gets addicted?

It depends what you mean by “light”. Occasional use, playing GTAV, and occasional use playing League of legends is pretty different. A 2200G is fine for league and CSGO, but GTAV and Witcher and such are different ball games

I agree. Pick a few cases from nzxt, corsair, thermaltake etc and ask which one he likes the best.

good question, I'll make sure I say that in the future for other posts. Probably not much gaming, in general. I have a feeling he might warm up to PC gaming though but I cant be sure despite that I asked him.

A 2200G is probably fine for his needs, and he can throw a dedicated GPU in later if he wants. You can go for the 2400G if he wants the extra power, but the 4 cores should be fine

I said: $800 USD

I didn't say location but the currency is us dollars.

Use: Day to day PC use, though he may warm up to PC gaming in the future. 

I didn't put peripherals in the list because this is a build, not a full setup

Last, the OS in the list I posted is windows 10. 

I didn't include everything but I mean it's not like I gave no info.. I was just asking for advice

Also I’d recommend Upgrading your PSU to the CXM. It’s semimodular, which will make cable management easier, and make it easier to install a GPU later on (modular PSUs are usually just better in general).

I have a modular PSU myself, I was just picking what didn't blow up for every buyer and what was a good price. Since theres more money for a PSU I'll definitely pick a better one

Youcan also take a look at the PSU tier list. It’s very helpful in picking out one that is likely to stay together for a long time. It’s in the PSU/Case subforum I believe

I do like this idea and have gotten good used out of my 960, but a used one I feel like isn't safe. It's pretty old, and used is a double whammy.

I don't have money so I distract my empty wallet with building things I wish I had for my friends . 

he won't put it to use and I play videogames so I need it more than he would want it.
