Is Ryzen's R5 2600 enough?

We're building a entertainment system for my uncle's man cave, I'm wondering if a 2600/2600X is enough for a 4K driving simulation system or should I get a 2700/2700X? (using a 4k Samsung curved TV) 

GPU decided on a GTX 1080ti 11gb from zotac.

I'd go for an 8700K, personally.

 

Don't get a Zotac card, they're not good quality. Go for something from EVGA or Asus instead.

4k60fps the Ryzen 5 2600 indeed may suffice.

 

Like stated avoid the AMP! Zotac cards, they have a design flaw on their VRM.

MSI is $35 more

EVGA is $55 more

Galax is same price tho

There was an LTT video about CPU performance in 2018, Intel has the lead in 4k. An i7 8700 ought to do it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Zotac custom cards use cheap crappy mosfets and VRM heatsink is tiny and does not connect to the huge fin stack which could help with the poor VRM efficiency (hence high heat output and temperature). Mini just amplifies the problem with a higher thermal density.

Strix is quite expensive, but it is the best performing card at the same time so it's a premium product at a premium price.

 

Galax one is actually quite good, aside from fans that never stop so noise level could be a bit higher. Some also reported that the white shroud isn't white, but cream in colour like old plastic. It is comparatively cheap though. I'd prefer this for that.

 

EVGA has great customer service and the card is decent, sadly it's priced too close to the Strix.

So you are suggesting him to spend 2 times more for 3-5 extra FPS in 4k?

You'll be hard pressed to find 30% delta in 1080p, let alone 4k.


HU's most recent 4k test:


You can expect 2600x to be couple of frames behind 2700x, but again, 30% difference nowhere to be found

Which was indeed noted in the video, and could be chalked up to optimization anomalies. I wasn't able to find any substantial data regarding racing sims specifically, so it may not really matter.

Yea well I'm either going for galax or evga depending if the evga one still has stock

Yeah but I recommended 8th gen, the 8700. Easy to cool (relatively) since you aren't overclocking.
