So now the RTX 2080 is better than the GTX 1080ti?

ramm

A few weeks ago when the RTX series just got launched many people saw that the 1080ti still performed alot better than the 2080. But now i've seen someone make a review of the gigabyte rtx 2080 gaming oc windforce and it actually seems to outperform a 1080ti. For me as an European where these cards costs about the same, would it be more wise to get for the 2080 at this point? I run 4k so first I wanted the additional vram the 1080ti offered (11gb ggdr5 instead of 8gb gddr6), but seeing this video kinda made me think the 2080 would be the better choice now that we have aftermarket coolers. I plan on getting a new gpu on the black friday if they have deals here (it's less common than in the USA but it still happens) so it's time for me to start making a decision.

This was the video I watched btw:

Still no real reason to buy a 2080 over a 1080ti for general gaming performance

if you buy new, I would go for the 2080 mainly for resale values. There isn't much future proofing with ray tracing, those cards will be obsolete by the time that takes off (they peformance was shown to be awful in the Nvidia keynote). If anything, an argument could be made for the 11gb of video memory that a 1080ti for fute proofing. But to be honest the rtx 2080 does just fine anyways. If you can buy a used 1080ti, then i would jump on those. I got my 1080ti for close to 450USD for example

No, because even by the tech demos an 2080ti can barely do Ray Tracing, and the DLSS support is only on a game by game basis. The 1080ti will simply be fine for what you want to do, though the 2080 does have a bit of an advantage at 4K due to some optimizations there. Still probably not worth it though until the price drops to like $500

Or maybe AMD's NAVI/Vega 7nm will actually be good...

it only depends on clock speed...which depend on what cards are being tested and at what settings...pretty sure with similar models and similar settings you would not notice any difference between them, they will start to slow down at the same settings.

Used market for 1080ti's isnt great in the EU and UK atm.

In the Uk for example 1080ti's can be had retail for between £580-£620 at there cheapest.

The used market however is still selling them for £550+, which is stupid, might aswell pay a little extra and get a brand new retail card.

IMO if u really want to upgrade, grab a ~£600 (~700 euro) 1080ti new.

if the 2080 is the same price as the 1080ti on the black friday deals wouldnt it be better getting that one?

Sure, they do tend to have the slight performance edge.

I dont see one using up 8gb VRAM even at 4k, UNLESS they are running alot of graphical mods.

Thank you. Then I'll wait for a few weeks and see if black friday brings something in my country. Then again changes are the 1080ti might be cheaper at that point too.

Still i always think you should go for a faster/newer gpu than an older one that has 3gb more memory. It would make sense I guess.
