What type of RAM is this?

So, I got this 4x4gb ram kit, but I have no clue what model or speed this ram is. Does anyone know what model or even what company its from?

Looks like 4GB of DDR3 ECC to me. Speed looks to be 1333Mhz going by the PC3L-10600.

registered sticks can be of much higher capacity per stick, say 256GB per stick. It is completely incompatible with memory controllers meant to use unregistered sticks though, that's why some servers use low capacity registered memory even though it's against the idea of being registered.

 

Excluding server boards, yes.

No.  They tend to be lower value because they get dumped onto the market when servers get upgraded, and normal users cant use them.

 

High supply and low demand equals low price.

if they are DDR4 then yeah. Yours are DDR3 dumped from decommissioned servers though, since it isnt compatible with desktops it's worth much less.

 

Take unregistered DDR3 of same capacity, 1/3 the price, there you go. It will also take quite a while to sell.

One could always get some server parts for REALLY cheap and built a 6 to 10 core system for not a lot of money.  CPU clocks are relatively low though.
