DSLR, Camcorder, Point and Shoot as webcam?

CollapsedNut

I'm just doing some clicking around the intertubes looking at webcam options and thought I'd see what any of you are doing besides the traditional Logitech c920. I stream random stuff where a movable camera is nice and being able to get clear close ups and quick auto focus is important. But at the same time I don't wanna drop $2000 on a DSLR cause I'm cheap. This would be a cool LTT episode where they compare different cameras.

I'm not sure how, but plenty of people stream directly from the camera on their phones. I'm sure there are plenty of simple tutorials on google/youtube

edit: You can get an entry level DSLR for under $500 all in, and have a good set up. There are bundles everywhere on amazon and the likes

You could buy a cheap canon camera and use it threw either Magic Lantern or CHDK (check before deciding tho), assuming a native version doesn't already exist.

As much as I, Brandon and others try threw various means of begging and requests, I doubt Linus would even rent cameras for a day to do such a video...

The internet is telling me the Canon R800 video camera is a pretty good webcam https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7OAH3I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

But then I'm scrolling amazon and see these chinese 4k video cameras for around $200...but do I dare. I guess since it's amazon I can always send it back.

Tell ya what if the chinese 4k one actually works, I'll send it up there if Linus will compare it to something :)

Also I think I'll grab an Elgato camlink to make the process go easier.
